Otis is seeking a self-motivated Controls Engineer to support the overall manufacturing process through the ownership of PLC/HMI/Robot programming, and troubleshooting. This person will be responsible for the implementation of engineering changes and assisting various departments with the implementation of new tools and processes and required training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or computer science (or bachelor’s degree and equivalent experience)
  • Minimum of five years as a Controls Engineer at a System Integrator (preferred) or manufacturing facility
  • Strong teamwork capabilities, operating in a multi-function environment to collectively improve operations and resolve related issues
  • Expert in programming and troubleshooting ABB (preferred) and/or Yaskawa (Motoman) robots
  • Proficient in programming with Allen-Bradley Studio 5000 Designer (RSLogix 5000) and RSLogix 500 PLC software
  • Skilled in developing applications using Studio 5000 View and FactoryTalk View HMI development software
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Hands-on approach to engineering
  • Given the nature of the position, applicants must have authorization to work in the U.S. now and in the future without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Support the plant in all aspects of the electrical maintenance troubleshooting using PLC and robot programming skills and a thorough understanding of the machines sequence of operations.
  • Support the new equipment design reviews when required to review the status of the machine design and provide input in reference to the plant's specifications and good design practice.
  • Manage the required electrical spare parts in the tool crib to ensure we can support any potential equipment failures on controls related items.
  • Respond to any equipment downtime issues in plant and establish any required outside resources to assist in responding to these issues quickly.
  • Train and develop the plant electricians to increase their ability to understand and troubleshoot controls related issues in the plant.
  • Manage large and small equipment improvement projects in the plant as a leader.
  • Complete the capital equipment list for secondary equipment required for the program detailing the cycle time requirements.
  • Write detailed engineering specifications for all the tooling and equipment required to purchase, include all relevant legislative requirements.
  • Select the suppliers for capital equipment.
  • Ensure the completion dates for all equipment are met.
  • Detail training needs for the plant for new equipment.
  • Integrate with the launch teams to transfer the technology required for new programs successfully to the plant.
