About The Position

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Student Engagement and Leadership, the Coordinator of Student Engagement and Leadership will assist in the growth and management of a student-centered activities program that fosters engagement among students, leadership development and academic achievement. The Coordinator will partner with other Student Affairs colleagues to promote a campus community that values actively engaging students socially, artistically, and interpersonally.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Two (2) or more years of student life or related experience
  • Knowledge of advising and program planning that aim in providing students with enriched mentorship and development opportunities.

  • Skill in verbal, written and interpersonal communications to effectively engage with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Skill in planning and organizing.

Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain a comprehensive student engagement program model that fosters the academic, artistic and interpersonal development of students.
  • Hire, train and supervise the Student Affairs Student Assistant (SASA), responsible for supporting event planning efforts and other Student Engagement and Leadership initiatives.
  • Directly supervise and advise student leaders involved in the student-run radio station (WSVA).
  • Oversee and manage the student Club registration process through the Student Engagement and Leadership office.
  • In collaboration with the VASA Treasurer and student workers, coordinate related elements, including club leader training, club space reservations, club budget approvals, and the procurement of club purchases.
  • Partner in the supervision and development of student leaders in the Visual Arts Student Association (VASA: SVA student government), the Student Senator program, and the student-run art publication, The Visual Opinion.
  • Assist in the hire, supervision, training, and evaluation of all student workers, including Orientation Leaders, Student Center staff, WSVA staff, and VASA staff.
  • Assist in organizing student staff onboarding to confirm that all documentation is received for eligibility to work.
  • Communicate student leader policies and requirements, and ensure compliance with institutional event-planning policies.
  • Recommend student workers/leaders, including Orientation Leaders, for SVA events as needed.
  • Assist with the coordination of the student government election process.
  • Coordinate and carry out the SVA Student Leadership Series and select Orientation events each year.
  • Assign and manage 20-120 Orientation Leaders' scheduled shifts on an ongoing basis throughout their time scheduled.
  • Partner in coordinating and staffing all Student Affairs-sponsored events and other College programs including Orientation, Accepted Students Day and Open Houses.
  • Support the development and maintenance of community service opportunities for members of the SVA community, as planned by the Student Affairs Student Assistant.
  • Attend and supervise Student Engagement and Leadership and VASA-sponsored events, including off-campus and weekend events.
  • Serve as an active Student Affairs liaison to other administrative and academic departments of the College working collaboratively to accomplish common goals.
  • Manage and facilitate requisitions and payments for services rendered.
  • Procure event space reservations, group rate tickets and other opportunities for student engagement, activities and entertainment.
  • Manage, update and edit related media on the SVA website.
  • Assist with the management of the Student Engagement and Leadership office.
  • Perform other job-related duties or special projects as assigned.
