About The Position

Reporting to a Correctional Programs Supervisor, this position is responsible for conducting initial assessments of offender needs and developing case plans, monitor for compliance and results, and revise as appropriate to meet offender needs and achieve system objectives. Job responsibilities include; but are not limited to, the following: - Assessing offender behavior and developing counseling strategies to achieve desired offender progress. - Answering offender questions, giving information about classification and sentencing status, corresponding with offender families, and providing supportive counseling. - Organizing and directing the activities of various rehabilitation programs provided for offender. - Conducting work release and home leave investigations, coordinating community resources, planning and coordinating transition (re-entry) prior to parole or release into the community. - Making recommendations to the offender classification committees on an offender's program involvement or custody level change. - Working with offenders whose problems, needs, and comprehension levels vary greatly. - Serving in a custody role during certain activities. - Working some evening hours, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • MUST be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
  • Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Produce a negative drug screening result
  • Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution Or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Public Safety Or An equivalent combination of training and experience.
