The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! This position reports directly to a Correctional Lieutenant III and/or the Correctional Housing Unit Manager at a multi-custody female correctional facility and provides first-line supervision for Correctional Officer II’s. Other responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: Providing supervision for subordinate staff, conducting shift line-up, making shift assignments, and inspecting all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post. Completing, reviewing, and maintaining time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms. Accounting for persons and funds to ensure that all assigned equipment is operationally ready. Assigning lower-level custody staff to a particular area or post, overseeing officer activities and performance and ensuring that the custody, security and welfare of offenders is maintained. Arranging work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implementing operational procedures and ensuring rules and regulations are followed according to policy. North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women (NCCIW), in Raleigh, is the state's primary prison for women. It houses the largest offender population in the state and serves as the support facility for the state's other female prisons. The campus-style facility sits on 30 acres of a 190-acre tract of state land in southeast Raleigh. NCCIW houses offenders of all custody levels and control statuses, including death row, maximum, close, medium, minimum, safekeepers and youth. It provides the primary medical, mental, and alcohol and chemical dependency treatment for female offenders. The facility operates a diagnostic center that serves as the point of entry into the prison system for women. Upon arrival, offenders undergo a series of diagnostic evaluations that will determine future prison assignments. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week). The selected candidate may be selected to work any shift and will work weekends and holidays to ensure 24/7 staff coverage. The State of North Carolina offers excellent comprehensive benefits.
