About The Position

As a Correctional Sergeant, you will be a senior security staff member responsible for overseeing custody, control, supervision, and daily care of adults in custody while upholding the mission of the Department. You will serve as a lead worker, ensuring facility operations run smoothly, safely, and efficiently. You will supervise AICs during movement assignments, monitor high-security areas, and conduct security operations such as transports, searches, and emergency response. In this role, you will also play a key part in staff development, assisting in training and potentially mentoring subordinate staff as a Field Training Officer (FTO). You will lead by example, modeling professionalism, accountability, and behaviors that support rehabilitation efforts.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience in a correctional security setting where your primary duties were the care and custody of AICs
  • Be able to obtain, within two weeks, an Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) Correctional Certificate OR a Correctional Certificate from another government agency
  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED certificate
  • Be 21 years of age or older
  • United States Citizen
  • Have or Ability to obtain a valid Oregon motor vehicle operator's license

  • Skill in reading and understanding written policies and procedures and post orders.
  • Skill in writing reports.
  • Skill in operating communications equipment such as two-way radio, telephone switchboard, and public address equipment.
