About The Position

Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities for conducting specialized training and staff development programs at an assigned correctional facility, at a training academy or for a department region/division. This includes evaluating and determining employee training needs, preparing required curriculum, and conducting training on various topics and skills.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the principles and methods of employee training
  • Knowledge of correctional security policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of various types of equipment used in adult education
  • Ability to conduct classroom training, workshops or seminars
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to prepare lesson plans and other training materials
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with others
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in applications such as spreadsheets and word processing
  • Associate degree; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of correctional or security management, training, adult education or human resource development for each year of the required education.
  • Bachelor’s degree plus one additional year of qualifying experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of correctional or security management, training, adult education or human resource development for each year of the required education; or a master’s degree in adult education or human resource development.
  • Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment and retain a valid driver’s license while assigned to this job classification.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts job analyses and assessments to evaluate employee training needs.
  • Evaluates and develops curriculum, including lesson plans, participant manuals, videos, and graphics.
  • Administrative work including scheduling and keeping records of training.
  • Conducts classroom training, workshops or seminars to increase the knowledge and skills of employees in various subjects or tasks including pre-service and in-service training.
  • Prepares weekly and/or quarterly training reports.
  • Schedules and coordinates training sessions and locations.
  • Coordinates department or division training or organizational development programs.
  • Trains contracted staff, and occasionally manages contracts.
