The Lieutenant of one of the major operational divisions of the Sheriff's Office, such as Patrol, Corrections or by assuming other responsibilities deemed by the Undersheriff or Sheriff to be of sufficient significance to rise to the level of Lieutenant. Incumbents are responsible for assisting in administering and managing; coordinating, evaluating all services provided by the division or assigned area. The Lieutenant provides management of operational direction for the assigned division within the Sheriff’s Office. It differs from the Sergeant which is responsible for the activities and staff on day-to-day operations and programs within a division of the Sheriff's Office. It also differs from the Undersheriff who determines policies and objectives for the operations of the division.
