The UW Upward Bound program has an outstanding opportunity for a Counseling Services Coordinator. More information about UW Upward Bound can be found here: Upward Bound – Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity https://www.washington.edu/omad/upward-bound/ Under the supervision of the Director for TRIO Upward Bound, the Counseling Services Coordinator provides critical administrative, advising, and support services to students and potential students in the Upward Bound program. Upward Bound is designed to help low-income and first-generation students succeed in high school, enroll in college, and obtain a postsecondary degree. Upward Bound is a federally funded U.S. Department of Education program that is subject to renewal every five years. This position requires the ability to communicate well with multiple audiences including high school students/families; Seattle and Kent high school staff; and university faculty and staff. The position also requires adhering to policies and procedures in the implementation of the plan of operations to meet the objective of the Upward Bound grant. Upward Bound services are provided by instructional staff at multiple high school locations and the Counseling Services Coordinator position requires coordinating across schools. In addition, many of the students in the program are enrolled in Running Start courses at area colleges making communication and coordination more challenging. The counseling coordinator position must adhere to guidelines from various sources including school district, high school, university guidelines, and federal department of education guidelines. Maintaining multiple forms of communication is important including (social media, print, text messaging, email, phone, listservs, and websites). The Counseling Services Coordinator plays a critical role in coordinating a six-week summer academic program on the University of Washington Campus. The counseling coordinator position is also responsible for maintaining complex data collection processes for student records and grant outcomes. The Counseling Services Coordinator support of two federal Department of Education TRIO grants contributes to the Office of Minority Affairs College Access mission to create pathways for diverse students to access postsecondary opportunities. Through their participation with the Upward Bound program many students become competitive applicants to the University of Washington. This position serves over 150 students annually. The position helps build positive relationships with representatives from area colleges, high schools, and community-based organizations.
