About The Position

CUNY EDGE (Educate, Develop, Graduate, and Empower) is a partnership between CUNY and the NYC Human Resources Administration (HRA), designed to support students receiving public assistance in achieving academic success, graduating on time, and preparing for the workforce. The CUNY EDGE Advisor at Queens College provides individualized, holistic advising that integrates academic planning and career development to support students receiving public assistance. Reporting to the CUNY EDGE Director, the Advisor helps students navigate their educational pathways, connect coursework to long-term career goals, and meet program requirements. This role is central to advancing the program’s mission of aligning academic success with career readiness through proactive engagement and direct student support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, with a minimum of one year of relevant experience in higher education, social services, or workforce development.
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, interpersonal).
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, Zoom, and other virtual platforms.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with CUNY systems (CUNYFirst, DegreeWorks, Navigate) preferred.
  • Experience working with low-income or special populations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized academic and career advising to help students plan coursework, monitor progress, and align their studies with career goals.
  • Assist students with course selection, goal setting, and development of academic and career plans.
  • Support students in exploring career paths, developing résumés and cover letters, and preparing for internships and job searches.
  • Facilitate workshops, mock interviews, and promote use of online career and job search resources.
  • Conduct proactive outreach through calls, texts, and emails to encourage student engagement and program compliance.
  • Meet regularly with students to review progress, address challenges, and connect them to appropriate support services.
  • Collaborate with campus offices, faculty, and external partners to connect students with academic, career, and personal support resources.
  • Promote internship and employment opportunities and assist with employer engagement and campus events.
  • Maintain accurate advising notes and student records in program databases.
  • Collect and verify student timesheets for the HRA Fellowship Program and ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Manage the virtual front desk during CUNY EDGE online office hours to aid and direct inquiries appropriately.
  • Record and track student academic outcomes and submit program data on a regular basis to ensure accurate reporting.
  • Participate in program meetings, events, and related activities to support team goals and student success.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to students, staff, and campus departments through responsive and professional communication.
  • Other duties as assigned.
