Management Preferences: Senior Database Administrator The North Carolina Department of the Secretary of State (NCSOS) is seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Database Administrator (DBA) to support ongoing data quality and system optimization initiatives. This role is responsible for leading data cleansing efforts, enhancing table structures, and designing and maintaining data relationships to ensure data integrity, consistency, and performance. The selected candidate will evaluate existing database environments, identify inconsistencies or redundancies, normalize schemas, and implement best practices in relational database design. Strong SQL expertise, analytical thinking, and attention to detail are essential for success in this position. This role requires effective collaboration with development and IT teams to strengthen overall data reliability and support organizational objectives. Senior-level knowledge of enterprise database architecture, including advanced relational design, normalization, indexing strategies, unique identifier frameworks, and enforcement of referential integrity to support scalable, secure, and high-availability systems. Expertise in diagnosing and resolving complex performance issues through advanced SQL tuning, query plan analysis, optimization of large-scale unions and updating statements, and implementation of best practices to support high-volume transactional and analytical workloads. Lead data quality initiatives, including resolving duplicate and conflicting identifiers, standardizing address and reference data, consolidating redundant tables, and establishing long-term data governance and cleanup strategies. Advanced experience designing, overseeing, and optimizing ETL processes and data warehouse integrations in collaboration with developers, and business stakeholders to ensure consistent, reliable data delivery for dashboards, reporting, and analytics platforms. Ability to design and enforce complex data relationships across transactional and analytical systems, define foreign keys or logical mappings, implement indexing strategies, and evolve schemas to support new business requirements without compromising data integrity or performance.
