About The Position

The College of Southern Nevada (CSN) is seeking a visionary and dynamic leader to serve as the Dean of the CSN School of Business, Hospitality and Public Services. The Dean serves as the senior academic leader for the School, overseeing four academic departments: Accounting & Finance, Business Administration, Criminal Justice and Hospitality Management. The Dean leads nearly 200 full-time and part-time faculty and staff across CSN’s multi-campus environment and ensures academic excellence, workforce alignment, fiscal stewardship, student success outcomes, and compliance with CSN, NSHE, accreditation, and collective bargaining requirements. The Dean supports approximately 9,000 students who have declared majors and/or take classes in programs offered by this School each year. The School serves a diverse student population pursuing transfer degrees, applied workforce credentials, stackable certificates, industry certifications, and professional advancement. The Dean provides strategic direction for the School, fostering an environment of innovation and excellence in teaching, research, and service. Responsibilities include budget management, faculty and staff oversight, community representation, and ensuring program relevance and quality. The Dean will also lead the development of the School’s Academic Master Plan and work closely with faculty to promote continuous improvement and student success. The Dean also provides executive leadership oversight for Russell’s Restaurant, CSN’s community-facing, student-operated restaurant that serves as a capstone experiential learning environment for culinary and hospitality students. This venue functions as both a teaching laboratory and a public engagement platform, requiring strong operational oversight, fiscal accountability, community relations leadership, and alignment with instructional objectives. In addition, the Dean provides institutional leadership support and academic coordination for the Southern Nevada Regional Police Academy, which CSN supports as part of its public safety program. This includes collaboration with law enforcement agencies, oversight of CSN alignment, and ensuring high standards of training, compliance, and community partnership. This position requires a leader who understands the unique intersection of business innovation, hospitality and tourism economies, culinary excellence, public service professions, law enforcement training, workforce development, and transfer pathways within one of the nation’s most dynamic metropolitan regions. The Dean reports to the CSN Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs (Chief Academic Officer) and serves as a member of the CSN Senior Academic Leadership Team.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in any program field that is offered within the School of Business, Hospitality, and Public Services and/or consistent with the duties and responsibilities of the position, such as Higher Education Leadership, Educational Leadership, Business Administration, Public Administration or Policy.
  • Six (6) years of full-time experience at a higher education institution to include at least two years of full-time teaching experience at the post-secondary education level in a discipline currently offered at CSN within the School of Business, Hospitality and Public Services.
  • Three (3) years of experience in an academic leadership and/or supervisory role in higher education.

  • Proficiency in use of a personal computer and current software applications including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Expertise in curriculum development and revision, particularly in stackable credentials.
  • Proficiency in assessing student learning outcomes and utilizing data for decision-making.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to engage effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • High emotional intelligence, ethical decision-making, and sound judgment.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain partnerships with local business and industry leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Provide visionary leadership in curriculum development, program review, and strategic planning for accounting, business, hospitality and culinary, as well as criminal justice disciplines.
  • Provide executive oversight of Russell’s Restaurant as a community-facing instructional enterprise, ensuring operational excellence, fiscal responsibility, student learning integration, and positive public engagement.
  • Support and coordinate institutional leadership responsibilities related to the Southern Nevada Regional Police Academy in partnership with regional law enforcement agencies.
  • Ensure alignment of programs with workforce needs, regional economic priorities, and transfer articulation agreements.
  • Ensure annual assessment of student learning outcomes and curricular review occurs at the course, program and institutional learning outcome levels.
  • Strengthen partnerships with industry leaders, hospitality enterprises, chambers of commerce, economic development agencies, public sector organizations, and public safety agencies.
  • Manage budgetary planning and fiscal operations, including state funds, self-support revenue (where applicable), grants, and philanthropic contributions.
  • Support grant development, workforce training contracts, and industry-sponsored initiatives.
  • Oversee School personnel recommendations to include but not limited to faculty hiring, evaluation, tenure review, professional development, grievance review, discipline, and collective bargaining compliance.
  • Ensure high-quality delivery of in-person, hybrid, online, accelerated, and alternative instructional modalities.
  • Lead development and execution of the School’s Academic Master Plan in alignment with CSN’s Strategic Plans.
