A Day in the Life As a 3rd Shift Diesel Technician Foreman at Universal Truck Service, you will work a 4/10 schedule - four ten-hour nights Monday through Thursday, with three-day weekends every week. You will work hands-on alongside your team while overseeing shop flow, assigning work, and ensuring every job meets the quality and timeline expectations Universal Truck Service is known for. You will assist with diagnostics, keep customers updated on job progress, coordinate with the service writer, and provide ongoing training to shop personnel. This role is for a Diesel Technician who leads from the front.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience as a Diesel Technician or Diesel Mechanic
  • Strong mechanical and troubleshooting abilities across Class 6, 7, and 8 trucks and medium duty trucks
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Own tools and toolbox
  • Strong computer skills and ability to adapt to new software programs
  • Valid Class A or B driver's license recommended
  • High school diploma required; technical degree or DOT certification a plus

Responsibilities

  • Manage service and repair personnel by assigning and directing activities, following up on in-progress repairs, and appraising shop personnel performance
  • Plan and schedule repairs proactively - review the daily workload and build an efficient execution plan each shift
  • Assist technicians with diagnostics and mechanical support as needed
  • Perform ongoing hands-on training of service and repair personnel
  • Oversee active jobs to ensure they stay within estimated limits and customer expectations
  • Provide customers with clear, accurate daily updates on job progress
  • Perform repairs directly when needed
  • Back up the Maintenance Manager and service writer by answering phones, responding to emails, and handling COD customer billing as needed
  • Schedule 3rd Shift - 4/10 schedule (Monday through Thursday nights). $2/hr shift differential included. Three-day weekends every week.
