About The Position

At MPC, we’re committed to being a great place to work – one that welcomes new ideas, encourages diverse perspectives, develops our people, and fosters a collaborative team environment. POSITION SUMMARY: The Digital Transformation Engineer leads site‑level digital initiatives that modernize how engineering and operations data is captured, contextualized, and used to improve reliability, efficiency, and decision‑making. This role focuses on translating business and operational needs into scalable digital solutions, improving data quality, and driving adoption of new digital capabilities across the refinery. The role supports multiple digital focus areas - including Digital Twin, data acquisition, data insights, automation, and mobility - to improve asset reliability, maintain compliance with Process Safety Information (PSI) standards, and reduce non‑value‑added work. A portion of this role is responsible for PSI coordination as outlined in RSP1302, including from a digital workflow and governance perspective, ensuring PSI systems enable automated compliance rather than relying on manual coordination. This position reports to the Refining Engineering Manager and will be based in Garyville, LA. This is an in-person position and will be able to work a 9/80, 4/1, or 5/8 schedule.

  • Experience with digital transformation, data analytics, or industrial digital solutions preferred.
  • Familiarity with engineering data systems, Digital Twin concepts, or reliability analytics preferred.
  • Exposure to regulated data environments (PSI, PSM, or similar) as a user or contributor preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with regulatory and operational deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Process Safety Information (PSI) – Digital Enablement Lead and coordinate a team of Sigma PSI auditors, providing direction, setting expectations, and ensuring audit efforts are aligned, efficient, and focused on value‑adding outcomes rather than manual compliance activities. Ensure PSI digital workflows, governance, and data structures support compliance and audit readiness. Maintain and improve the PSI Site Plan and related systems. Support PSI gap‑closure and pre‑PHA readiness from a systems, data, and workflow perspective. Enable more efficient PSI validation and reducing reliance on manual field verification where digital solutions are available.
  • Digital Transformation Delivery Lead and support digital initiatives that improve how engineering and operations work is executed, with emphasis on reliability improvements, time savings, and efficiency gains. Manage and oversee contractors in the digital space, including resources supporting Digital Twin and GIS efforts, ensuring scope, quality, and value delivery meet site objectives. Identify opportunities where digital solutions can replace manual, paper‑based, or fragmented processes. Partner with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Process Safety, and IT/Digital teams to move initiatives from concept to sustained use. Act as a site‑level owner for translating digital strategy into practical, value‑generating execution.
  • Digital Twin & Engineering Data Modernization Support expansion and adoption of Digital Twin capabilities, including: Enhanced visualization and contextualization of engineering and process data. Integration of 3D models, P&IDs, and related datasets to improve troubleshooting and decision‑making. Enable workflows that position digital models and validated data as the single source of truth, reducing reliance on disconnected CAD files or manual checks. Support digital validation and readiness of engineering data ahead of key activities (e.g., project execution, HAZOPs), reducing field rework and inefficiencies.
  • Data Acquisition, Insights & Reliability Enablement Support deployment and evaluation of digital data acquisition and analytics solutions that improve asset reliability and reduce non‑value‑added work. Enable use of advanced monitoring, diagnostics, and analytics to support proactive maintenance and operational decision‑making. Partner with reliability and maintenance stakeholders to ensure digital solutions align with real maintenance and operational needs.
  • Digital Efficiency, Automation & Mobility Drive automation of manual engineering and administrative processes to reduce cycle time and improve consistency. Support adoption of mobile solutions that put relevant data in the field, improving productivity and decision‑making at the point of work. Identify and eliminate inefficiencies caused by duplicate systems, manual tracking, or unclear workflows. Leverage AI-enabled knowledge retrieval tools that improve access to technical standards, procedures, and engineering information. Help consolidate fragmented knowledge sources into intuitive, searchable digital experiences. Champion practical digital improvements that make every day work easier for engineers.
