The Directional Drill Operator is responsible for safely operating drills to complete underground projects. This includes setting up, drilling variable-sized holes, pulling back conduits, and collaborating with the Locator and laborers throughout the project. Key Responsibilities: Operate Vermeer and Ditch Witch Horizontal Directional Drills (HDD) with prior experience. Read and interpret site plans, blueprints, and utility markings. Perform pre-operation equipment inspections and maintenance. Maneuver equipment safely in tight spaces and near existing utilities. Wear required uniform and personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times. Assist with additional projects and duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Ability to follow directions accurately. Strong attention to detail and sound decision-making. Work independently with minimal supervision or collaboratively in a team. High safety awareness and commitment. Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions. Maintain a clean driving record. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required; CDL preferred. Flexibility to work evenings or weekends as needed. Physical and Environmental Demands: Exposure to extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow, etc.) and outdoor elements. Work on uneven terrain and near road noise and traffic. Frequent interaction with heavy equipment and moving mechanical parts. Ability to lift materials over 50 lbs. Education & Experience: Previous experience operating heavy equipment in construction, telecommunications, or utility sectors. Knowledge of safe digging practices and underground utility identification. Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting capabilities.
