About The Position

Emory Healthcare is seeking an experienced Director of Community Engagement to provide system-level leadership for community engagement initiatives that strengthen trust, relationships, and responsiveness across the communities served. This role will guide strategy, programs, and initiatives that promote meaningful engagement with community partners and stakeholders. The Director will oversee regional community engagement managers and the community engagement coordinator, ensuring alignment with both system-wide and operating unit priorities. The position is responsible for monitoring workflows, allocating resources, and ensuring initiatives are executed effectively to achieve measurable impact.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Work, Community Engagement, Healthcare Administration, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in community engagement, public health, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience at a system or multi-site level.
  • Minimum of 5 years of people leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to guide and develop teams through coaching and professional development.
  • Strong strategic planning, collaboration, and cross-functional coordination skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively engage with internal leadership and community stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in using data and evaluation methods to inform decision-making and assess program impact.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Social Work, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in community engagement or related field.
  • At least 7 years of management or leadership experience.
  • Experience navigating healthcare or public health systems and understanding how community engagement and community benefit operate within hospital systems.
  • Ability to work effectively within complex, matrixed organizations.
  • Knowledge of community benefit regulations, CHNA processes, and reporting requirements.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and scaling community engagement initiatives across multiple sites or regions.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity-centered and community-informed engagement practices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead system-wide community engagement efforts that strengthen trust, relationships, and responsiveness across the communities served.
  • Provide strategic guidance and support to community engagement team members and organizational leaders to ensure alignment with system and operating unit priorities.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of community needs, assets, and perceptions at both system and operating unit levels.
  • Utilize community insights to inform strategies, programs, and initiatives that are responsive, equitable, and data-driven.
  • Facilitate engagement through Community Advisory Boards and other formal and informal channels including:
  • Community Health Needs Assessments (CHNA)
  • Community listening sessions
  • Feedback from pilot initiatives
  • Integrate community insights into strategic planning, program development, and decision-making.
  • Provide strategic leadership for system-wide community engagement pilot initiatives.
  • Guide the identification, design, implementation, and evaluation of initiatives in collaboration with regional managers and informed by community data and input.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure initiatives are aligned with broader system priorities.
  • Collaborate with system and operating unit leaders, University and Government Affairs teams, and other key stakeholders.
  • Ensure coordination, consistency, and effectiveness of community engagement practices across the system.
  • Lead the collection, analysis, and evaluation of community engagement data.
  • Assess program effectiveness and alignment with system and operating unit priorities.
  • Provide regular reports to leadership regarding program outcomes, lessons learned, and strategic insights.
  • Lead and coordinate system-level Community Benefit Reporting, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational standards.
  • Ensure reporting accuracy, efficiency, and alignment with system goals.
  • Lead and guide the community engagement team, including regional managers and the coordinator.
  • Assign work, monitor progress, and reallocate resources as needed to ensure successful program outcomes.
  • Remove operational barriers and support team effectiveness.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for team members.
  • Address performance management needs in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Foster a collaborative, innovative, and solutions-oriented leadership environment.
  • Coordinate with hospital and system leaders to ensure consistent engagement practices across operating units.
  • Develop and manage the community engagement program budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively and monitored for efficiency and impact.
  • Maintain and expand professional expertise through participation in industry events, training programs, and professional organizations.
  • Stay informed of emerging best practices in community engagement and public health.
  • Support the professional growth of the community engagement team by encouraging participation in learning opportunities and professional networks.
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support the mission, priorities, and effectiveness of Emory Healthcare’s system-wide community engagement program.
