About The Position

This role offers the opportunity to transform the engineering organization by defining and implementing AI-augmented development practices, shared tooling, and scalable platform infrastructure. The Director of Engineering, Enablement and AI Tooling will build systems that increase developer velocity, reliability, and compliance while respecting clinical and security constraints. You will work closely with engineering leads across Product, Data/AI, and Clinical teams to establish workflows, knowledge systems, and guardrails that make AI a sustainable, organization-wide capability. The position includes ownership of CI/CD reliability, paved-road developer workflows, and core cloud platform systems. You will also define metrics to measure the impact of enablement efforts and grow a small team as the function scales. This is a high-impact role for someone passionate about developer productivity, AI tooling, and building infrastructure that empowers engineers to deliver faster and safer solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred
  • 8+ years of experience in engineering productivity, developer tooling, platform engineering, or related roles
  • Hands-on experience with AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex) and understanding of their organizational impact
  • Working knowledge of LLMs, including context windows, prompting strategies, and retrieval-augmented generation
  • Strong programming skills in Python; experience with CI/CD systems, infrastructure-as-code, and cloud infrastructure (GCP preferred)
  • Experience in regulated or security-sensitive environments with constraints on data and compliance
  • Proven ability to build internal platforms and workflows that engineers adopt and use effectively
  • Strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills to align with cross-functional engineering teams

Responsibilities

  • Define and implement the organization-wide strategy for AI-augmented engineering practices
  • Build institutional knowledge systems that make architecture, domain context, and development patterns accessible to both engineers and AI tools
  • Establish technical controls and governance for AI tool usage, including approved tools, PHI-safe workflows, prompt guardrails, and vendor evaluation
  • Own CI/CD reliability and developer velocity initiatives, including automated preview environments, test optimization, and flake reduction
  • Develop paved-road workflows and tooling for engineers, including service templates, repo standards, and automated setup scripts
  • Manage core cloud platform infrastructure, covering compute, networking, deployment automation, and infrastructure as code
  • Define, track, and report metrics that demonstrate the effectiveness of engineering enablement efforts
  • Hire and grow a small team to support the function as impact scales

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $200,000–$230,000 per year
  • Remote work environment with flexible arrangements
  • Comprehensive healthcare coverage, including medical, dental, and vision
  • Retirement plan options with employer contributions
  • Opportunity to work with a high-impact, innovative team shaping AI-enabled engineering practices
  • Professional development and growth opportunities in a technology-driven environment
