Director of Logistics / Transportation & Distribution
About The Position
We are seeking a senior logistics leader responsible for driving execution, reliability, and cost efficiency across a complex logistics and distribution operation. The Director of Logistics / Transportation & Distribution owns end-to-end product movement across inbound freight, outbound shipping, transportation strategy, warehouse coordination, and delivery performance. This role ensures products move through the network efficiently, shipments leave on time, and customer delivery expectations are consistently met. This is a hands-on operational leadership role overseeing multiple shipping and warehouse teams while working closely with operations, production, and supply chain leadership to maintain smooth product flow and scalable logistics infrastructure. The ideal candidate brings strong operational discipline, carrier management expertise, and a proven track record improving on-time delivery performance while controlling logistics costs.
Requirements
- 5+ years leading logistics or transportation operations in a high-volume manufacturing or distribution environment
- Experience overseeing multi-site logistics operations strongly preferred
- Proven ability to lead managers and develop accountable teams
- Strong knowledge of inbound freight, outbound distribution, transportation management, and warehouse operations
- Demonstrated success improving on-time shipping, delivery performance, and logistics cost efficiency
- Experience managing carriers, brokers, and third-party logistics partners
- Strong analytical skills with experience using WMS, TMS, ERP systems, and operational dashboards
- Strong communication and leadership presence
Responsibilities
- Logistics Execution & Performance Own end-to-end logistics performance across inbound freight, outbound shipments, inter-warehouse transfers, and priority shipments
- Ensure consistent on-time shipping and reliable on-time delivery performance
- Identify operational risks early and implement corrective actions quickly
- Leadership & Team Development Lead shipping and warehouse teams across multiple locations
- Establish strong operating rhythms and accountability from managers through frontline supervisors
- Build disciplined execution standards across the logistics organization
- Transportation Strategy Own transportation strategy including carrier mix, routing models, delivery schedules, and service-level expectations
- Optimize transportation costs while maintaining delivery reliability and service quality
- Inbound Freight Management Manage inbound freight planning for both domestic and international shipments
- Control shipment ETAs, appointment scheduling, and inbound capacity planning
- Prevent inbound delays that disrupt production or outbound readiness
- Carrier & Partner Management Manage relationships with carriers, brokers, and third-party logistics providers
- Negotiate rates and contracts while monitoring service performance
- Resolve claims and implement long-term service improvements
- Warehouse & Distribution Coordination Improve staging, loading accuracy, and shipment readiness across warehouses
- Ensure consistent operational standards across locations
- Systems & Continuous Improvement Build logistics dashboards and KPI reporting to monitor performance and identify risks
- Use operational data to reduce delays, damages, and logistics cost leakage
- Improve workflows within WMS, TMS, and ERP systems
- Standardize logistics processes and best practices across locations
