About The Position

The Director of Plant Finance & Controlling serves as the financial leader for the manufacturing organization and oversees all accounting and finance functions for the plant and related operations. This role is both strategic and operational — responsible for financial stewardship, plant controlling, cost optimization, and business partnership across all organizational functions including Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Procurement, and Logistics. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in plant finance and cost accounting within a manufacturing environment, particularly in manufacturing costing, variance analysis, and plant-level financial management. This role will be instrumental in establishing and building the finance function supporting the manufacturing side of the business, requiring a leader who is highly hands-on and comfortable operating both strategically and operationally. Candidates should demonstrate intellectual curiosity and operational fluency with an understanding how products are made, where costs originate, and how financial insights can drive efficiency, margin expansion, and long-term value creation. As a key member of the leadership team, this role partners closely with Plant leadership and executive leadership to translate operational data into actionable financial strategies, ensuring disciplined cost control, capital efficiency, and scalable growth. The position title will be commensurate with candidate experience and qualifications

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (required)
  • Minimum 10+ years of progressive finance/accounting experience, including at least 5 years in a manufacturing environment with supervisory responsibilities (required).
  • Strong plant finance and cost accounting expertise, including manufacturing costing, variance analysis, and plant-level financial management (required).
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing cost accounting, GAAP compliance, and FP&A processes.
  • Experience partnering with operations leaders to drive cost efficiencies and operational performance improvements
  • Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills with the ability to influence non-financial stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee all accounting and finance functions including general ledger, cost accounting, inventory accounting, FP&A, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure GAAP compliance, strong internal controls, and financial integrity across all operations.
  • Provide executive-level financial insights to the CFO and senior leadership team.
  • Support audits, financial due diligence, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Help build and strengthen the financial governance and infrastructure supporting manufacturing operations.
  • Own plant controlling, including standard costing, BOM validation, absorption analysis, variance reporting, and margin optimization.
  • Develop deep understanding of manufacturing processes to proactively identify cost drivers across labor, materials, yield, scrap, overhead absorption, and throughput.
  • Partner with Operations and Engineering to analyze cost structures and recommend efficiency improvements.
  • Evaluate make vs. buy decisions, capacity utilization, and production economics.
  • Serve as the primary financial leader for plant operations and manufacturing economics.
  • Serve as a consultative business partner to Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Procurement, and Logistics leaders.
  • Identify structural cost improvement opportunities across sourcing, vendor contracts, freight, inventory management, and production workflows.
  • Build analytical frameworks to evaluate operational performance and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Connect operational KPIs (yield, OEE, throughput, labor efficiency) to financial outcomes and strategic decision-making.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning processes for manufacturing operations.
  • Oversee capital planning and ROI analysis for equipment investments and expansion initiatives.
  • Develop financial models supporting automation, process improvement, and new product introductions.
  • Assess financial risk and return on major operational initiatives.
  • Define and develop the operational and financial data required to improve costing accuracy and business performance.
  • Design dashboards and reporting tools that provide real-time visibility into plant economics.
  • Ensure alignment between ERP systems, operational data, and financial reporting.
  • Elevate analytical capability across the finance team.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing Accounting & Finance team.
  • Foster a culture of operational curiosity, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner cross-functionally to align financial strategy with business objectives.
  • Act as a trusted advisor and thought partner to executive leadership.
