Orbital Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Director of Power Generation to build and lead a new Power Generation business unit. This role is accountable for launching and scaling the business unit, driving business development with owners, developers, EPC partners, and strategic allies for new-build opportunities, and recruiting and developing high-performing subject matter expert (SME) teams to execute and support the unit’s growth. This position is ideal for a proven leader who can combine market-facing growth (relationships, pipeline, proposals, positioning) with operational leadership (team building, delivery excellence, quality, and financial performance). This is a remote position that will interface with teams and resources across the United States and international locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field
  • Significant experience leading power generation pursuits and/or executing power generation projects (new build, major upgrades, or owner’s engineering/EPC support).
  • Demonstrated success developing and maintaining executive-level client relationships.
  • Proven leadership experience building teams and scaling capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and strong business acumen/customer relationship management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
  • Experience with new-build delivery environments (owners/developers, EPCs, OEMs, consultants) and complex multi-discipline execution.
  • Track record building a new practice, service line, or business unit with measurable revenue growth.
  • Experience leveraging/communicating relevant project experience in power generation environments (balance of plant, electrical upgrades, controls, emissions systems, fuel handling/coal delivery, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Establish the Power Generation business unit strategy, service offerings, and go-to-market plan focused on new build and expansion opportunities.
  • Define the operating model: organizational structure, key roles, delivery approach, teaming/subconsultant strategy, and internal processes.
  • Build a scalable foundation for consistent delivery (standards, QA/QC expectations, lessons learned, and repeatable execution playbooks).
  • Lead market outreach and relationship development with asset owners, developers, EPCs, OEMs, and strategic partners to originate new opportunities.
  • Own and grow a qualified pipeline; lead pursuit strategy, positioning, and capture planning for targeted accounts.
  • Drive proposal development, scope definition, and commercial strategy in coordination with internal leaders and operational teams.
  • Represent Orbital at key industry meetings, client visits, and conferences to expand brand presence and credibility.
  • Recruit, mentor, and retain SMEs across relevant disciplines to support power generation work
  • Build a high-performing culture with clear expectations for performance, collaboration, and accountability.
  • Support onboarding, coaching, and professional development; develop succession depth as the unit scales.
  • Provide oversight and executive leadership for power generation projects—ensuring delivery on scope, schedule, budget, and quality.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and ensure customer satisfaction through proactive communication and issue resolution.
  • Partner with internal leadership to manage financial performance (revenue, margin, utilization planning) and forecast accuracy.
  • Coordinate with other Orbital service lines to cross-sell and integrate capabilities to deliver comprehensive solutions.
  • Support recruiting, learning & development, and compliance with company and customer policies and procedures.
