R1 is the leading provider of technology-driven solutions that transform the patient experience and financial performance of hospitals, health systems and medical groups. We are the one company that combines the deep expertise of a global workforce of revenue cycle professionals with the industry’s most advanced technology platform, encompassing sophisticated analytics, AI, intelligent automation, and workflow orchestration. R1 is transforming from a labor-first revenue cycle services company to an AI-powered, tech-first partner for the nation’s largest health systems. As the Director of Public Relations & Communications, you will lead the strategy and execution of R1’s external narrative and bring our transformation to life with key category shapers and influencers—translating our brand, product, and corporate priorities into sustained, high-impact market presence and influence. This role is accountable for how R1 shows up in the market across earned media, analyst relations, and executive external presence, ensuring consistency, scale, and impact in support of the company’s strategic narrative. This role is responsible for operationalizing R1’s media and communications strategy: managing agency partnerships, shaping and sustaining the news cycle, and ensuring R1 is omnipresent in the trade, healthcare, and influential business press that reaches buyers, investors, and category-defining voices. Working in close partnership with brand, marketing, product, and executive leadership, the Director will help bring R1’s strategic narrative to life through proactive editorial planning, executive thought leadership, and consistent, disciplined external communications. With an obsessive focus on outcomes—reach, impact, share of voice, and narrative penetration—this role is accountable for driving a step-change in market visibility and influence. The Director of PR & Communications will also own the systems, processes, and decision frameworks that govern external communications, enabling speed, alignment, and sound judgment, while providing steady leadership during moments of heightened scrutiny, crisis, or customer engagement. Here’s what you will experience working as the Director of Public Relations & Communications: 1. Earned Media and News Cycle Leadership Own R1’s earned media strategy, agency partnerships, and news cadence—ensuring sustained, high-impact presence across healthcare trade, technology, and influential business outlets that shape buyer, investor, and market perception. 2. Narrative and Editorial Strategy Define and manage R1's external communications editorial strategy, proactively advancing the topics, proof points, and perspectives that position R1 as a category-defining AI and technology leader in revenue cycle management. 3. Executive Voice, Influence and Market Impact Activate R1’s executives and SMEs as visible, credible spokespeople—driving media quotations, bylined thought leadership, keynote and panel participation, analyst engagement, influencer relationships, and industry awards that reinforce R1’s authority. 4. Analyst Relations and Industry Positioning Direct R1’s analyst relationships with KLAS, Gartner, and peers, providing strategic guidance and centralized coordination to strengthen credibility, influence category perception, and maximize value for both R1 and analysts. 5. Reach, Impact & Communications Governance Obsess over outcomes—reach, impact, engagement, and share of voice—while owning the internal processes for news releases, executive alignment, external positioning decisions, crisis communications, and the strategic use of social and editorial channels beyond traditional PR.
