About The Position

Simon & Schuster, a global leader in publishing, is seeking a Director, Reporting & Policy, to lead consolidated reporting and global accounting policy across our international organization. This is a highly visible leadership role within Corporate Finance, partnering closely with senior leadership and global finance teams to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely financial reporting. The Director will oversee the monthly global consolidation process, lead the preparation of quarterly and year-end external financial statements, and coordinate with local teams to assist with statutory reporting across multiple jurisdictions. This individual will also serve as a key technical accounting resource, driving consistency in accounting policies and strengthening reporting governance across the enterprise.

Requirements

  • CPA required; Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience, including Big 4 public accounting, advisory, and/or public or multinational corporate reporting experience.
  • Deep expertise in U.S. GAAP and financial statement preparation.
  • Consolidation experience across multi-entity, multi-currency environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional and international initiatives.
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation and review of monthly global consolidated financial statements, including appropriateness of all elimination, policy alignment, pushdown, and consolidation adjustments.
  • Lead the drafting of quarterly and annual external financial statements and related disclosures in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Coordinate with international affiliates to support local statutory financial reporting requirements, internal controls, and system testing to ensure global compliance and consistency in financial processes.
  • Review monthly flux analyses to ensure accurate and insightful financial reporting.
  • Drive standardization and documentation of global accounting policies and reporting practices.
  • Partner with external auditors, manage audit deliverables, and support technical accounting assessments.
  • Provide technical accounting guidance to business units and finance teams.
  • Assist with M&A activities as well as other ad hoc initiatives driven by business needs.
  • Identify and implement process improvements, leveraging technology wherever possible, to enhance reporting efficiency, transparency, and control.
  • Support and enhance internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Ensure robust documentation of accounting judgments, estimates, and key policies.
  • Contribute to strengthening reporting governance across a growing and evolving global organization.
  • Partner with consultants and department leaders on the design and implementation of the company’s finance transformation strategy, including process mapping, controls design, documentation, transition oversight, and change management.
