About The Position

Under the general oversight of the Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA) the Director of Shared Business Resources (Director) is responsible for administering “divisional support services” providing fiscal, information technology, and related personnel administrative support resources and oversight of contracts, agreements and MOUs for the division of Student Affairs (SA). Which is comprised of approximately 50 units with 300 employees and budgets totaling $80M The Director is a member of the divisions’ senior leadership team and is extended broad authority to make collaborative decisions on budget and personnel matters for the divisions, and often serves as proxy to the VPSA when working with AVPs and Executive Directors within and outside of the divisions. The Director works closely with the VPSA and division leadership (AVPs and EDs) to develop and execute strategic plans that align resources with division goals, and comply with federal, state, CSU, and campus policies and procedures for fiscal actions. The Director represents the division at the university and system level and is empowered to act as a designee for the VPSA in certain situations.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited four-year college or university or equivalent work experience.
  • Five or more years direct experience with budget development, implementation, and oversight including multiple departments or offices.
  • Five or more years experience with personnel management, as it pertains to resource planning and/or aligning unit operations with institutional priorities and goals.
  • Experience with strategic planning, operational goal planning, operational assessment and program evaluation.
  • Proficient in the use of: Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook), Visio, Oracle, internet browsers, standard office equipment and machines.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the primary operational areas reporting to the position: budgeting, personnel processing, and information technology.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in a large, multidepartment organization.
  • Ability to analyze, evaluate and communicate complex, sensitive financial and personnel information, policies and processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment to resolve unexpected or unprecedented situations.
  • Ability to understand and evaluate complex problems from a future-oriented and broadly interactive perspective and to readily develop proactive solutions that integrate strategic goals into tactical operations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to work collaboratively to build consensus, to achieve goals and objectives, and to resolve difficult situations.

  • Ability to complete the background check process.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters degree in Business, Higher Education or Public Administration from an accredited four-year college or university, or equivalent work experience (demonstrated by 10 or more years experience).
  • Experience in higher education budget development, implementation, and oversight.
  • Experience supervising or managing employees in a union/collective bargaining environment.
  • Experience using PeopleSoft Common Management Systems (CMS) and Common Financials System (CFS).
  • In-depth expertise and knowledge of university fiscal policy, processes, procedures and regulations within the CSU system.
  • In-depth knowledge of CSU personnel practices and policies including bargaining agreements and payroll processes.
  • In-depth knowledge of CSU information technology practices and policies including operational use of artificial intelligence in a higher education setting.
