About The Position

A leading national healthcare laboratory services organization is seeking a dynamic Division Laboratory Director to provide strategic, operational, and financial leadership across multiple hospital-based laboratories. This organization delivers comprehensive clinical laboratory and anatomic pathology services, supporting acute care hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, physician practices, surgery centers, and commercial clients. The Division Laboratory Director is responsible for overseeing laboratory operations across multiple facilities within an assigned division. This role partners closely with service line leadership, division executives, hospital CEOs, CFOs, pathology medical directors, and other stakeholders to ensure high-quality, efficient, and cost-effective laboratory services. The ideal candidate will have strong multi-site laboratory leadership experience, a background as a Medical Technologist, and a proven ability to manage complex operational and financial initiatives in a matrixed healthcare environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or Laboratory Science (Required)
  • Background as a Medical Technologist (Required)
  • Minimum of 5+ years recent laboratory leadership experience at Director/Manager level or laboratory consulting level
  • Multi-site laboratory leadership experience (National or Regional level)
  • Strong knowledge of: Healthcare systems management, Hospital and laboratory operations, Healthcare financial management, Third-party reimbursement, Clinical operations
  • Active involvement in a relevant professional organization
  • No employment gaps
  • COVID-19 vaccination required unless approved for medical or religious exemption

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or related field
  • Local Tennessee candidates preferred (Relocation considered for strong applicants)

Responsibilities

  • Provide consultative and assessment services to division and facility leadership
  • Direct laboratory operations to ensure quality, efficiency, and regulatory compliance
  • Execute operational assessments, process improvement initiatives, and gap analyses
  • Lead implementation of laboratory test formularies, equipment platforms, and service line objectives
  • Coordinate and optimize laboratory services within geographic regions
  • Support reference lab vendor selection and utilization strategies
  • Ensure billing compliance and charge capture accuracy
  • Maintain laboratory readiness for regulatory accreditation
  • Manage division laboratory financial performance to budget
  • Analyze financial trends, utilization data, and reimbursement models
  • Identify and resolve operational, clinical quality, and financial variances
  • Support profitability assessments of outreach and commercial business lines
  • Partner with hospital leadership, pathology medical directors, supply chain, IT, and performance improvement teams
  • Maintain strong relationships across service lines and operating groups
  • Deliver executive-level presentations and operating reports (weekly/monthly as required)
  • Ensure alignment with enterprise strategy prior to implementation of recommendations
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of laboratory directors
  • Mentor leadership teams to promote collaboration and operational excellence
  • Proactively identify improvement opportunities and implement sustainable solutions
  • Stay current with legislative and regulatory changes impacting laboratory services
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and healthcare regulations
  • Maintain awareness of the critical nature of laboratory services supporting patient care
