About The Position

The drilling technical manager role utilizes advanced expertise to serve as a technical resource and develops project management knowledge, skills, and experience. This position may develop technical approaches to meet project requirements, navigate technical challenges, and coordinate project timelines and deliverables alongside project managers. The technical manager performs project management duties on small phases of larger projects.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in a construction related field preferred
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in geotechnical drilling
  • Ability to obtain and maintain railroad and safety certifications
  • Ability to pass Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements and obtain a commercial driving license (CDL)
  • Has experience in the following drilling disciplines:
  • Continuous flight augers
  • Hollow stem augers (3 1/4 inch, 4 1/4-inch, and 6 1/4-inch)
  • NQ wireline coring/tooling
  • Well installation
  • American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) sampling methods

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates effectively with technical staff and project managers to ensure successful preparation of project schedules, scopes, and objectives.
  • Applies technical experience to assist with the development of cost estimates and the formulation of project budgets.
  • May allocate potential resources and assign individual assignments on smaller portions of a project, ensuring technical capabilities and expertise align with project objectives.
  • Provides high-level technical guidance and support to solve drilling complexities and maintain progress on drilling assignments.
  • Tracks project completion by monitoring schedule, resource utilization, and expenses.
  • Attends project meetings to develop client relationships and review project performance.
  • Promotes efficiencies in producing quality work and identifies opportunities for improvement among technical processes.
  • Documents all project deliverables and maintains records including correspondence, drilling plans, and other project related files.
  • May mentor and provide technical guidance to less experienced staff.
  • May be required to work in all types of terrain and weather conditions and on project sites in various stages of construction.
