About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) is charged with implementing the state's public school laws for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade public schools at the direction of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and State Board of Education. The primary purpose of the Healthy Schools Consultant is to provide leadership, direction, and technical assistance for planning, implementing and evaluating strategies for the overall CDC grant in NC Healthy Schools at NC Department of Public Instruction to improve student health and academic achievement through nutrition, physical activity and the management of chronic health conditions in schools.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in the education field to which assigned from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of specifically related experience in public education; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the main liaison to the Division of Public Health to ensure deliverables are met as outlined in the MOU for Funding Opportunity Announcement DP18-1801.
  • Coordinate with the Healthful Living Consultant to provide support for health and physical education standards.
  • Collaborate with ECU School Health Training Center to identify, develop, and implement professional development related to nutrition and physical activity.
  • Serve on the planning committee for the Annual School Nurse Conference.
  • Collaborate with the Data Consultant to implement the Youth Risk Behavior Survey and the School Health Profiles Survey.
  • Provide guidance to priority LEAs on development of action plans informed by data and the context of the district.
