About The Position

The EKG Tech prepares patients and assists cardiologist in performing cardiac stress testing. Evaluates patient condition before, during and after cardiac stress testing and alerts cardiologist as appropriate. May apply holter monitors and is responsible for the transmission of holter monitors data to and from the central site. Assists with report processing. Performs EKG testing as needed by the department/facility. Assists in scheduling, pre-certification, corporate compliance, charge capture, and denial management of cardiac stress tests, EKG's and holter monitor procedures. Performs EKGs as needed by the department. Communicates with Pharmacy regarding cardiac medications and radiopharmaceuticals as prescribed by the cardiologist. Prepares patients for cardiac stress testing by obtaining patient history and documenting contraindications, instructing patient and demonstrating stressing techniques, applying electrodes, obtaining IV access, acquiring resting BP and baseline EKG. Coordinates cardiac stress testing with cardiologist, Nuclear Medicine and Echocardiology as needed. Applies holter monitors and provides patient instruction. Transmits and receives holter monitor tracings from central site. Assists in EKG report processing as needed by the departments or facility. Prepares cardiac stress tests, holter monitor, and EKG tracings for interpretation. Distributes accurate and timely reports of cardiac stress testing, holter monitors, and EKGs. Maintains accurate departmental records and files for cardiac stress testing, holter monitors, and EKGs. Participates and assists in the departmental Performance Improvement Plan. Attends departmental and QA meetings as required by management. Maintains safety and infection control measures. Reports incidents to Manager, Risk Management, Security, and/or Radiation Safety Officer in a timely manner. Serves as a preceptor to new employees and/or trainees. Maintains clinical competencies and credentialing.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Current Basic Life Support (AHA or American Red Cross BLS) certification
  • Computer skills are required

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Cardiac Dysrhythmia and cardiac stress testing protocols and the ability to recognize abnormal cardiac rhythms preferred.
  • IV Therapy Management preferred
  • Knowledge of radiopharmaceuticals and/or cardiac medications preferred
