About The Position

Ergon Refining in Vicksburg currently has an opening for a Maintenance Engineer. This is a support position to the Maintenance / Engineering Department of Ergon Refining, Inc. The Electrical Engineer provides technical and engineering support as needed for the development, design, and implementation of miscellaneous projects as directed by the Project Engineering Supervisor. Requirements

  • BS degree in electrical engineering.
  • Two to three years of experience in electrical engineering or specialized technical training in a petrochemical environment is recommended.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, Access, and MSProject is recommended.
  • The person selected must be self-motivated with strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills and successfully complete and pass a Functional Job Capacity Evaluation (FCE).
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • A clean MVR is required.

  • Develop completed electrical and instrumentation design specifications from basic conceptual ideas with limited direction
  • Organize, prepare and conduct project review and status presentations with key personnel to further develop and review project details
  • Review project details and equipment / instrumentation with Maintenance personnel (supervision, engineering, technicians) to ensure maintenance interests are addressed
  • Responsible for implementation and compliance with the Ergon Refining, Inc. Electrical Safety Program and ensuring the program meets the requirements of NFPA 70E.
  • Prepare detailed project estimates and cost justifications and developing Authorizations for Expenditure (AFEs) and other documentation as necessary for management approval of projects.
  • Prepare and implement project schedules as needed for efficient completion of tasks utilizing all applicable workgroups and resources
  • Monitor progress of all project phases to verify accuracy of schedule and budget estimates.
  • Work closely with Electrical & Instrumentation Specialists and IEC in identification, troubleshooting, and resolution of refinery electrical/instrumentation issues.
  • Work closely with Project Engineering Supervisor, Electrical Specialist, and Instrumentation. Specialists to implement capital & maintenance related electrical/instrumentation upgrades, additions, and replacements in kind.
  • Secure coordinating and / or supervising contract consulting, engineering, design and vendor services for supplemental design assistance as needed to accomplish project goals.
  • Provide direction to and supervise all work performed by on-site electrical/instrumentation contractors providing services to Ergon Refining, Inc.
  • Specify and procure parts and equipment as needed and verify compatibility with service conditions and applicable design codes including bid specifications and evaluations, purchase and expediting delivery.
  • Document all phases of project design, construction and installation to verify compliance with Ergon Refining, Inc. specifications, all applicable design and construction codes, recommended practices, etc.
  • Initiate, participate in, and ensure the completion of the Management of Change Procedure (including Pre-Startup Safety Reviews) for Electrical Engineering related activities.
  • Provide project follow-up upon completion of installation including equipment file development / documentation for new and / or affected equipment, recommended preventive maintenance of equipment, acquisition of spare parts, operating procedure development, startup assistance and lessons learned documentation
  • Interpret and seek total compliance to all OSHA, State and Federal Regulations as pertaining to instrumentation and electrical installation and design.
  • Assist in development of instrumentation training for applicable refinery personnel
