About The Position

Under the direction of the Senior Project Manager, the Project Manager I (PM I) is responsible for managing and implementing approximately $65 million of Emergency Firefighting Water System (EFWS) improvement and Power projects for the San Francisco Public Utilities (SFPUC). In addition, the PM I will have a support role to assist the Senior Project Manager with other important EFWS and Power projects that total over $200M. The Power projects are intended to provide additional transmission and distribution capacity to meet increasing electrical customer demands. The Power projects are part of the SFPUC Capital Improvement Program (CIP) funded by the 10-year Hetchy Capital Improvement Program (HCIP). The EFWS projects are intended to provide high pressure fire suppression water following emergencies such as an earthquake and include the planning, design, and construction of the Mission Bay Ferry Landing Fireboat Manifold project. Similarly, this PM will also have a supporting role to assist the Senior Project Manager with other EFWS projects. The EFWS projects are funded in part by the SFPUC 10-year Water Enterprise Capital Improvement Program (WECIP) and the Earthquake Safety and Emergency Response (ESER) Bonds. The PM I will take a lead role with the following projects: 10042241– Burma Rd Undergrounding Burma Road Undergrounding project involves approximately 1.4 miles of existing overhead and underground electrical work at Lands End adjacent to the Bay Bridge in Oakland. It will require adding a new circuit and reinforcements to connect to the existing submarine cables to meet increasing electrical demand on Treasure Island associated with phased housing development. 10040490 – EFWS Mission Bay Ferry Landing Fireboat Manifold The project constructs a new pipeline and fireboat manifold at the new Mission Bay Ferry Landing, at the bay side of 16th Street and Terry Francois Blvd. The new pipe will connect to an existing 20-inch diameter Earthquake Resistant Ductile Iron Pipe (ERDIP) AWSS main along Terry Francois Blvd.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in architecture, engineering or planning plus four years of responsible architectural, engineering or construction management experience, OR A Bachelor's Degree in another field plus six years of responsible experience in a field directly related to the project, OR Eight years of architectural, engineering, or construction management experience in a field directly related to the project, OR California registration as professional engineer or architect
One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2000 hours. (2000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week.) Any overtime hours that you work above forty (40) hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.

Responsibilities

Manage project budget, schedule, and scope.
Define the project needs, assess the conditions of all existing pertinent facilities, and identify feasible alternatives to address project needs.
Evaluate various alternatives for meeting the project objectives based on designated evaluation criteria.
Recommend the preferred alternative.
Prepare a report that specifies the 10% design level for the recommended alternative.
Conduct required environmental studies; analyze and evaluate project alternatives.
If necessary, prepare draft and final EIR and EIS for circulation and public hearings.
Pursue statutory exemption, categorical exemption, or mitigated negative declaration where feasible.
Develop 100% construction documents (plans and specifications) for the project.
Support SFPUC Contracts for bidding, the SFPUC award process, and contracting.
Support coordination with construction contracts administered by other City agencies, such as Public Works.
Support construction management to facilitate project construction.
Support the operational start-up of any newly constructed facilities and finalize project finances during close-out.
Class 5502 performs other related duties as required.
