For more information, visit www.hawaiienergy.com The Challenge: Exciting opportunity to join a team of Energy Advisors and Energy Engineers executing Hawaii Energy’s incentive programs and advisory services to businesses to accelerate the implementation of energy efficiency projects. The Data Analyst supports the customer and reporting needs of the Hawai‘i Energy efficiency program portfolio. This role is central to understanding how programs perform against savings, participation, and cost‑effectiveness targets. The analyst will work closely with program managers, implementers, evaluators, and utility stakeholders to deliver insights that guide strategic decisions, improve program design, and ensure regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable working with large datasets, developing forecasting models, interpreting AMI‑based load shapes, and communicating findings to both technical and non‑technical audiences. Under the guidance of the Commercial Team management and/or other staff, the responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in data science, statistics, engineering, economics, energy management, or a related field with 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience working with large datasets and performing quantitative analysis in a professional setting.
  • Proficiency with analytical tools such as Python, R, SQL, or similar languages.
  • Strong skills in data visualization platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • Ability to interpret complex data and communicate insights clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Experience with forecasting methods, statistical modeling, or time‑series analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Must be highly motivated, detail oriented, well organized, self-starting, have strong written and verbal communication skills, and work well in a team setting.
  • It is critical that productivity and accuracy be demonstrated in performance of work.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the energy efficiency, utility, or clean energy sector.
  • Familiarity with AMI data structures, load shape analysis, or demand‑side management analytics.
  • Knowledge of evaluation, measurement & verification (EM&V) practices, cost‑effectiveness testing, or regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Understanding of commercial building systems, energy‑saving technologies, or program implementation strategies.
  • Experience with cloud‑based data environments.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze commercial program channel data to assess progress toward portfolio‑level metrics, including energy savings, demand reduction, participation, and cost performance.
  • Develop dashboards, scorecards, and recurring reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Conduct root‑cause analyses to explain performance drivers and variances.
  • Build and maintain forecasting models for portfolio metrics such as energy savings, demand impacts, and budget utilization.
  • Support annual planning cycles by providing scenario analyses, historical performance insights, and data‑driven recommendations.
  • Identify and quantify impacts from program implementation activities, including measure adoption, customer engagement, and market trends.
  • Perform analysis and provide input in developing/modifying programs to meet changing needs.
  • Process and analyze customer AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) data to develop load profiles, assess load shapes, and segment usage patterns.
  • Identify high-value customer segments for targeted outreach or measure adoption.
  • Screen lead pipelines and direct leads to appropriate staff for follow up.
  • Support ad‑hoc analyses to evaluate measure performance, market trends, or program impacts.
