Requirements

  • Electrical/Electronic/Mechatronic or similar Engineering degree/diploma/certificate or Trades Qualification and significant equivalent work experience.
  • Must have experience in programming, start-up, check-out, commissioning, and troubleshooting of complex automation solutions.
  • Experience in PLC to MES, SQL Databases, Traceability Systems, OPC UA, (PLC to database, database to database communications) utilizing Barcode Scanners or RFID systems.
  • Robust understanding of industrial networking, VLANs, NATs, Stratix, and managed switches.
  • Experience in electrical control system design, PLC , Robot programming and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge in the following software packages:, Studio5000, Factory Talk View Studio, RobotStudio, Omron CX-Programmer, Omron NT-series Support Tool, Siemens, and Siemens Step7.
  • Experience in configuring and troubleshooting communication bus architectures using Ethernet/IP and DeviceNet (legacy).
  • Experience in design and integration of machine safety circuits, safety PLC’s and applications. (Category 3/4)
  • Relevant experience with motion control architectures, Allen Bradley Kinetix servo and VFD drive systems.
  • Knowledge of the use of automation devices (i.e. vision systems, , load cells, LVDT’s, signal conditioners, laser measurement, vibration analysis, etc.).
  • Demonstrates the Ability to read and understand technical documents, schematic design specifications; create/modify electrical drawings, process & instrumentation diagrams and schematics when required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Controls Engineering Technologist position or equivalent
  • Demonstrates Excellent professional communication skills both written and oral
  • Demonstrates Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Ignition Designer is an asset, Perspective, Vision and scripting.
  • AMR integration, commissioning and support experience are an asset. (Kuka)

Responsibilities

  • Support Manufacturing Engineering department with new equipment launches and partakes in activities related to Manufacturing Engineering Continuous Improvements.
  • Provides on-site/off-site assistance with or performs the programming, start-up, checkout and commissioning of equipment and validation or processes related to controls.
  • Complete all job closeout documentation.
  • Act as a technical resource to operations team
  • Coordinates work with subcontractors.
  • Prepare engineering estimate reports, minimize variances and provide justification.
  • Design and implement machine control software, hardware, and programs for automation system projects to meet Quality, Manufacturing Engineering and/or customer requirements
  • Interacts with suppliers and contractors on a technical level to ensure program goals are met.
  • Instrumentation Specification/procurements and interfacing.
  • Procurement of spare components and justification for ordered spare components.
  • Flexible working different shifts as required.
  • Prepare, read, and interpret written reports, instructions / trainings, procedures and guidelines.
  • Support the PHSR Process.
  • Must adhere to all MAFACT requirements.
  • Adhering to all IATF 16949 policies and procedures.
  • Must comply with all ISO 14001 (Environmental systems and standards as it pertains to their work.
  • Abide by all AODA and C-TPAT procedures that apply to their position.
  • Must be willing to travel
  • Willing to work overtime as per job requirements
