About The Position

Outpost Technologies is seeking Engineering and Technician Interns to support engineering projects in mechanical, electrical, software, and quality assurance disciplines. The position will specialize towards the Candidate’s advanced degree path with preference on more technical tasking. The Candidate must be willing to support multiple technical efforts on current Aerospace and Defense programs. This position is intended to focus the Candidate’s efforts on a specific engineering or technical field while gaining valuable exposure to other disciplines. The Candidate will be advised by a group of seasoned engineers serving numerous defense, aerospace, and manufacturing programs. The candidate can expect hands on work; proximity to design, quality, and fabrication tasks; and mentorship. Tasks may include: Advanced design and analysis of engineering systems (mechanical, electrical, software, etc.) such as subsystem design, software tool development, integration and test procedure development and execution, and subsystem verification and validation. Prototyping hardware using additive manufacturing, software packages, analysis packages, and/or CNC machining. Basic inspection of prototyped components and assemblies. Review and revision of engineering products such as drawings, papers, specifications, and process documents. Weekly presentations to mentor team conveying task status, needs, concerns, and forward work. Communication skills are strongly desired. The Candidate must be self-motivated, a problem solver, and eager to learn autonomously. Candidate must always present a professional demeanor while in the office. The posted compensation reflects the anticipated salary range for this position. Actual pay will be determined by a variety of factors including experience, education, certifications, and alignment with internal compensation structures specific to government contracting requirements.

Requirements

  • Candidate must be a US Citizen.
  • Candidate must be a resident of or be willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama Area. Housing and transportation are not provided.
  • Candidate must be enrolled in an ABET-accredited advanced degree path such as a Master’s or PhD.
  • Candidate must be dependable, trustworthy, punctual, diligent, and humble.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced academic coursework or experience related to engineering, quality assurance, and/or manufacturing.
  • Contributed to or published research as part of coursework.
  • Club or extracurricular activities related to engineering.
  • Leading engineering or technical research in areas related to Materials, Fluid Systems, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Systems, Electrical Systems, Software or Computer Science.
  • Previous work experience as intern or employee in a similar business or organization supporting the United States Army, Air Force, Space Force, Navy, or NASA.
  • Active DOW Clearance.
