Your Opportunity Stantec is seeking a qualified, energetic, self-motivated, and resourceful Environmental Scientist to support our Environmental Services group. Grow your career with a leading environmental consulting firm serving a wide variety of private, federal, state, and local government clients in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, and the surrounding region. Your role will be to perform field work including species surveys, habitat assessments, wetland delineations, compliance monitoring, inspections, and technical support services. You will also write reports, develop plans, and implement steps to move projects toward closure in the most cost-effective manner.

Requirements

  • Willingness to travel and conduct fieldwork in remote areas (50-75% of the time), including overnight travel, and multi-week deployments is expected for this position
  • Strong work ethic with a demonstrated ability to work independently and self-motivated
  • A valid driver’s license and a good driving record required
  • An interest in ecosystems, natural resource conservation/restoration, and the outdoors is essential
  • The ability to solve problems using critical thinking and to complete tasks with consideration for themselves and the team's safety is important
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including exceptional MS Office skills
  • Strong note-taking skills and attention to detail
  • Solid field skills including the ability to navigate in difficult terrain using aerial maps
  • Ability to lift and move items and equipment
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Bachelor’s degree in wildlife biology, rangeland ecology, environmental science, forestry, botany, soil science, or a closely related natural resource field
  • 0-5 years of related experience

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Texas and Oklahoma vegetation and species is a plus
  • Familiarity with GPS data collection, a broad range of ecological communities, environmental regulatory compliance, and prior consulting experience is preferred
  • Certified Wetland Delineator is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Support data collection efforts for wetland delineations and wetland functional/conditional assessments under applicable agency regulations
  • Conduct vegetation inventories and monitoring
  • Conduct wildlife surveys and habitat assessments for listed species (migratory birds and threatened/endangered species)
  • Undertake as needed field work including construction observation, water, soil, and air sampling, natural areas assessment and other field reconnaissance.
  • Conduct Phase I Environmental Site Assessments
  • Assist with Phase 2 Site Investigations and Remediation
  • Lead and work alongside field teams
  • Record, enter, organize, and analyze ecological/environmental data
  • Prepare report documentation and supporting materials for client and regulatory agency submittals
  • Travel to project areas to perform field assessments throughout Stantec’s service area
