About The Position

Pagosa Springs Medical Center (PSMC) is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Environmental Services (EVS) Worker to help maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary healthcare environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Under the supervision of the Environmental Services Manager, this position performs cleaning and disinfecting duties throughout the hospital campus while following strict infection control standards. The EVS Worker is responsible for maintaining cleanliness in patient care areas, public spaces, and staff work areas, while also ensuring proper handling of waste, cleaning chemicals, and equipment. This role plays a critical part in preventing the spread of infection and supporting a safe healing environment. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office and electronic health record systems)
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

Nice To Haves

  • Hospital environmental services experience preferred but not required
  • Current AHA BLS (Heart Saver) certification required
  • CHEST certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Clean and disinfect patient care areas, including beds, furniture, bathrooms, floors, and high-touch surfaces
  • Perform terminal cleaning procedures for discharged patient rooms
  • Clean public areas, staff offices, and other areas throughout the medical center campus
  • Disinfect medical equipment following established protocols
  • Maintain assigned areas in a clean and hazard-free condition
  • Follow hospital infection prevention and safety procedures
  • Handle biohazardous and medical waste according to regulatory standards
  • Follow posted infection precaution signage when cleaning patient rooms
  • Use appropriate cleaning chemicals and disinfectants safely
  • Maintain cleaning equipment and supplies
  • Track cleaning solutions by open and expiration dates
  • Store cleaning chemicals and supplies according to safety guidelines
  • Distribute clean linens to assigned patient care areas
  • Prioritize tasks to ensure efficient completion of daily assignments
  • Adapt to changing needs including staffing shortages or emergency situations
  • Assist with orientation of new EVS staff when assigned
  • Support departmental inventory processes
  • Maintain positive, respectful interactions with patients, visitors, and staff
