About The Position

MAS Environmental (a NOVA Engineering & Environmental Company) is hiring an Environmental Technician for our Tampa, FL or Fort Lauderdale, FL office. We are seeking an experienced Environmental Technician with direct, hands-on experience supporting projects under the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Petroleum Restoration Program (PRP). This position involves field implementation of petroleum remediation projects, including operation, monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance of remedial systems, as well as environmental sampling and compliance with FDEP guidelines. The ideal candidate will have a mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot remediation equipment (experience with HVAC repair or vehicle maintenance is ideal).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED (Associate’s degree in Environmental Science or related field preferred)
  • Experience supporting FDEP PRP projects
  • Hands-on experience operating and maintaining petroleum remediation systems 
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot remediation equipment (experience with HVAC repair or vehicle maintenance is ideal)
  • Valid Florida driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to perform physically demanding fieldwork and work outdoors in Florida conditions

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with FDEP sampling protocols and PRP reporting requirements
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER (current or ability to obtain)
  • Experience with mechanical and electrical systems, control panels, and basic instrumentation is high
  • Strong written communication skills for field documentation

Responsibilities

  • Support petroleum remediation projects conducted under the FDEP Petroleum Restoration Program (PRP)
  • Conduct system startup, monitoring, and optimization for remedial technologies including: Air Sparging, Soil Vapor Extraction (SVE), Dual-Phase Extraction, Pump-and-Treat, etc
  • Collect field measurements including vacuum, pressure, flow rates, groundwater elevations, and contaminant screening data
  • Perform routine inspection, operation, and preventative maintenance of remedial systems (O&M)
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues related to remediation equipment
  • Replace and repair system components (pumps, blowers, compressors, piping, valves, control panels)
  • Maintain system logs, O&M records, and maintenance documentation required for PRP reporting
  • Comply with project-specific Health and Safety Plans (HASP) and FDEP requirements
  • Properly manage investigation-derived waste (IDW) in accordance with PRP and state regulations
  • Maintain chain-of-custody documentation and sample integrity
  • Perform groundwater, soil, and soil vapor sampling in accordance with FDEP guidance and approved scopes of work
  • Participate in site safety meetings and regulatory inspections
  • Prepare detailed field notes and assist with PRP deliverables and documentation
  • Communicate system performance, site conditions, and corrective actions to project managers
  • Support regulatory audits, site inspections, and contractor coordination as needed
