About The Position

We are seeking a motivated Environmental Field Technician (Apprentice) to join our growing environmental consulting team in the San Diego area. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in environmental science, field inspections, and environmental compliance to gain hands-on experience while working alongside experienced environmental consultants and inspectors. This role is responsible for conducting environmental surveys, inspections, and sampling at residential and commercial properties. The technician will collect environmental samples, document field findings, and coordinate with internal teams to ensure projects are completed accurately and on schedule. No prior environmental certifications are required — training will be provided for the right candidate. Compensation & Benefits Competitive hourly pay: $22–$30/hour depending on experience Paid training and certification opportunities Company vehicle Career advancement opportunities within environmental consulting Opportunities to obtain industry certifications Paid time off and holidays (if applicable) Work with experienced environmental professionals in a growing industry What a Typical Day Looks Like Travel to residential and commercial project sites throughout the San Diego area Conduct environmental inspections and surveys of buildings and structures Collect samples for asbestos, lead, mold, bacteria, and other environmental concerns Document findings and prepare field reports Deliver samples to NVLAP-accredited laboratories for testing Coordinate with project coordinators and environmental consultants Maintain field equipment, sampling media, and company vehicle

Requirements

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to document findings accurately

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent client service and professionalism
  • Ability to adapt quickly to schedule changes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Work outdoors in various environmental conditions
  • Walk and move around active job sites
  • Lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Bend, stoop, kneel, or crouch when conducting inspections
  • Communicate and document information accurately in the field

Responsibilities

  • Conduct environmental inspections of interior and exterior building materials
  • Collect environmental samples in areas of concern
  • Perform testing and clearance inspections for environmental hazards
  • Develop testing schematics when required
  • Deliver environmental samples to accredited laboratories in a timely manner
  • Maintain field equipment, tools, and supplies in proper condition
  • Work closely with Project Coordinators, Certified Asbestos Consultants, and other technicians
  • Communicate site conditions and testing results clearly
  • Write field reports based on collected data
  • Ensure all project-related tasks are completed accurately and on schedule
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to inspections and testing
  • Manage daily schedule and stay organized when traveling between job sites
  • Utilize company databases, project management systems, and reporting tools
