CTL Engineering/CTL Infrastructure has openings for Equipment Operator 3 (Drilling Operator) for infrastructure projects! We provide civil/site design and land surveying, environmental, geotechnical, construction administration & inspection, accident reconstruction, roofing/building envelope, A/V system design, troubleshooting & installation, transportation design (bridge/roadway), and specialized testing services to the construction industry. We are looking for Equipment Operators who will play a key role in all aspects of construction services on infrastructure projects, performing skilled functions such as working in the construction and maintenance of highways, municipal waterline systems, etc. You use your experience and gain new skills to assist clients through our cross-functional team dynamic and company culture. Highlights: The selected applicant will train to become a Drilling Operator and act as a backup to drillers, while providing general support with geotechnical drilling to facilitate site sampling, analysis, and investigation. Perform a variety of tasks such as inspecting and maintaining drilling equipment and vehicles, logging and packaging samples, gathering appropriate sampling tools, etc. May be exposed to hazardous working conditions and inclement weather.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of safety practices used in structural steel construction.
  • Knowledge of the procedures, techniques and equipment used in the area of assignment.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and applicable safety standards and procedures in the area of assignment.
  • Knowledge of basic blueprint reading.
  • Knowledge of general construction and maintenance practices.
  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of gasoline and diesel-powered engines and their components.
  • Knowledge of the operation of motor driven equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and determine appropriate procedures for repairs.
  • Ability to safely operate basic hand and power tools.
  • Ability to read operation manuals, blueprints, and specifications in the area of assignment.
  • Ability to operate motorized equipment in the area of assignment.
  • Ability to perform skilled trades work in bridge construction and maintenance.
  • Ability to operate and maintain highway equipment and attachments.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records of daily maintenance activities.
  • Ability to climb high steel structures.
  • Ability to train and work cooperatively with other skilled and semi-skilled workers.
  • No formal education required.
  • (4) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience operating heavy equipment such as bulldozers, end loaders, dump trucks, drillers, etc.
  • Equipment Operator Experience Substitutions: Successful completion of an approved vocational school program may be substituted for two (2) year of the required experience in the specified area of assignment.
  • A valid class A or class B Commercial Driver’s License is required. (no substitutions).
  • A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is required.

Responsibilities

  • Operates a hydraulic crane.
  • Utilizes heavy motorized equipment to excavate, backfill, grade, or level soil and aggregate.
  • Utilizes heavy motorized equipment to grade surfaces, roll or compact soil and aggregate.
  • Leads or trains lower-level equipment operators.
  • Assists the Driller in positioning the drilling rig.
  • Adds rods or augers to drill.
  • Removes core samples from the core barrel.
  • Assists in cleaning and maintenance of the drilling rig and related tools and equipment.
  • Installs steel piling in pre-drilled holes.
  • Cleans the drilling site of debris after drilling is completed.
  • Sets and detonates explosive charges for earth removal.
  • Makes major repairs to highways, culverts, bridge structures, etc.
  • Makes minor mechanical repairs in the field such as changing tires, blades, or filters.
  • Responsible for maintaining equipment maintenance including but not limited to cleaning and lubricating equipment and checking fluid levels
  • Other duties as assigned.
