About The Position

The Estimator is to prepare accurate estimates for projects by gathering information and analyzing important metrics. You will provide knowledge of cost and benefits that support profitable business decisions. The ideal candidate will have excellent numerical skills and an analytical mindset. You must also be thorough and apt in managing relationships with key personnel. The goal is to provide detailed reports so the company can make informed decisions that will enhance its profitability and growth.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as an estimator or similar position (5-10 years)
  • Familiarity with financial and project management principles
  • In depth knowledge of research and data analysis methods and estimation formulas
  • Proficient in relevant software (Timberline, Bid2Win)
  • Effective communication and negotiation abilities
  • Thoroughness and reliability (attention to detail)
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • BS/BA in engineering, construction science or relevant discipline (strongly desired)

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) will be an asset
  • Procore and B2W experience is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Administer the contractual aspects of the bid process to maximize profitability and minimize the risk to the company.
  • Review project plans, specifications, and all relevant documents to define project requirements.
  • Recommend bidding suitable work or passing on unsuitable work.
  • Create and build estimates utilizing B2W Bid 2 Win estimating software.
  • Complete the Pre-bid Checklist of project issues, characteristics, project requirements, etc.
  • Consult project managers/senior estimators and capture their perspective/work smart ideas.
  • Estimate, bid, and budget the same way we build our work.
  • Research production rate history from similar projects to establish project cost based on the historical data, company standards, and industry trends.
  • Identify key operational constraints, supervision, equipment, engineering, weather, seasonal impacts, etc.
  • Capture the potential risk factors and windfall opportunities of the work.
  • Work with Trimble business center technician in support for quantity takeoffs, ensure completeness and accuracy of resulting reports. Learn to use Trimble Business Center Earthwork software.
  • Visit the site before each bid and take detailed notes and photos of the site if permitted, when applicable.
  • Assist management in finalizing cost estimates and setting anticipated gross margins for the work.
  • Produce project specific scope letters, when required in advance of proposal submittals.
  • Produce written proposals and bid submittal packages for all assigned projects.
  • Once the bid is determined successful or unsuccessful, enter the results in CRM.
  • If the project awarded, schedule a meeting with the Project Management team and transfer your knowledge, notes, cost information, and other critical information pertaining to the project. Do not delay organizing information. Pre-job planning begins immediately upon award of each project.
  • Proactively communicate information to your immediate supervisor, Operations management, project partners, and vendors to enable them to work toward the successful start (and completion) of the project schedule.
  • Assist other Estimators throughout the estimating process.
  • Represent the company in a professional manner to clients, architects, consultants, project partners, and the general public.
