About The Position

The Interim Finance Director will provide hands-on leadership across the City’s core accounting and finance functions, ensuring accuracy, continuity, and timely reporting during the engagement. This role oversees general ledger activities, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and month-end and year-end close processes, while producing reliable financial statements and management reports. The Interim Director will support operating and capital budgeting activities, including forecasting, variance analysis, and guidance to department leaders. Responsibilities also include leading financial analysis to support decision-making, maintaining strong internal controls, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. The Interim Finance Director will manage the annual audit process and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors to ensure accurate and timely completion.

Requirements

  • Month-end close process expertise.
  • Experience overseeing accounts payable and receivable to ensure accuracy.
  • Proficiency in budgeting and audit preparation.
  • Ability to implement internal controls.
  • Skill in creating pivot tables and Vlookups in Excel.
  • Proficient within a large-scale ERP such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, PeopleSoft, Workday, or Info.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • 7+ years of experience overseeing the month-end close process.
  • 7+ years of experience preparing and analyzing financial statements.
  • 7+ years of budgeting experience.
  • 7+ years of audit preparation experience.
  • 5+ years of experience implementing internal controls.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is a plus.
  • Experience in the state or government industry is advantageous.
