About The Position

Works under the direction of the Deputy Director of General Services to oversee and coordinate activities for procurement and maintenance of vehicles and equipment for the City of Memphis. Utilizes the Fleet Maintenance computer system to schedule work and placement of subordinates. Oversees the work activities of various departments regarding vehicle services. Manages the daily planning of all vehicles and equipment repairs. Provides work direction, assignment of duties, training, and evaluation of work performance of assigned staff. Reviews and oversees work orders and records of preventive maintenance, vehicle repairs and acquisition or deletion of fleets. Interprets technical manuals to ensure staff complies with federal, states, and local laws and regulations. Develops and implements operating procedures relating to motor vehicles and environmental issues. Establishes and maintains long range preventive and corrective maintenance schedules and guidelines. Initiates and reviews contracts and bid specifications for services. Travels to vehicle repair shops to conduct on-site inspections and monitor work operations. Manages and maintains departmental budget, supplies and equipment. Monitors expenditures such as accounts receivable and payable functions. Implements and coordinates payroll functions.
