Come join our Team in the Prepared Foods Division!! Shift : 1st Shift Schedule: Monday - Friday, Saturday & Sundays as needed to support operations. Hours: Must be able to work a flexible schedule between the hours of 5:00 AM - 3:30 PM (8 hour shift) flex as needed based on plant needs. Must be willing to work overtime. Pay: $ 28.05/hour. This position is eligible for overtime pay and is paid weekly. SUMMARY: The Formulations Technician IV is a senior technical role responsible for leading and executing complex product formulation activities within the St. Joseph hot dog manufacturing facility. This position ensures accurate batching, ingredient functionality, regulatory compliance, and process optimization while supporting new product development, cost optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Formulations Tech IV serves as a subject matter expert (SME) and mentor to junior formulation technicians and works cross‑functionally with Operations, Quality Assurance, R&D, Engineering, and Supply Chain.

Requirements

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience: 1+ years of manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience using spreadsheets and software systems. SAP a plus.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication. Ability to effectively communicate to ensure product flow to next workstation.
  • Special Skills: Proficient knowledge of SQF preferred. Knowledge of aseptic technique. Ability to perform intermediate math equations. Organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks a must. Ability to learn new skills and adapt to change as the organization continues to improve processes.

Responsibilities

  • Formulation & Production Support Execute and oversee complex meat and non‑meat formulations in compliance with approved formulas, BOMs, and regulatory standards (USDA, FDA, HACCP).
  • Validate ingredient functionality, yield, and finished product quality for emulsified and non‑emulsified hot dog formulations.
  • Support production troubleshooting related to texture, bind, cook loss, color, and flavor variances.
  • Ensure precise scaling, batching, and verification of ingredients in SAP/MES systems.
  • Inbound Scheduling & Material Coordination Schedule, manage, and execute the daily inbound ingredient and material schedule to support formulation and production requirements.
  • Coordinate with Materials, Receiving, QA, and Production teams to ensure timely receipt, staging, and release of ingredients.
  • Adjust inbound schedules in response to production changes, shortages, holds, or quality concerns.
  • Verify inbound materials align with approved formulations, specifications, and BOM requirements prior to use.
  • Communicate inbound status, risks, and constraints to cross‑functional partners to prevent production disruptions.
  • Leadership & Technical Expertise Provide on‑floor technical guidance during formulation deviations, changeovers, and startup activities.
  • Support training and standardization of formulation SOPs, work instructions, and best practices.
  • New Product Development & Commercialization Support R&D and BU teams with plant trials, first production runs, and commercialization activities.
  • Execute formulation trials, collect data, and document results for product validation and scale‑up.
  • Partner with cross‑functional teams to ensure smooth transition from pilot to full‑scale production.
  • Continuous Improvement & Cost Optimization Identify opportunities to improve yield, reduce waste, and optimize ingredient usage.
  • Support cost‑savings initiatives through formulation adjustments while maintaining product quality and compliance.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective actions related to formulation or ingredient issues.
  • Compliance & Documentation Ensure compliance with food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements at all times.
  • Maintain accurate formulation records, inbound documentation, trial data, and change management approvals.
  • Support internal and external audits (USDA, FDA, customer audits) as a formulation SME.
