General Maintenance Worker
About The Position
We ar seeking a General Maintenance Worker to support the upkeep, safety, and functionality of our facilities. This role helps maintain hospital and clinic operations as well as other Catalina Island Health properties within the Avalon Community. Under general supervision, the General Maintenance Worker assist with a variety of building maintenance and repair tasks across CIH facilities. The position supports facility operations by performing semi-skilled work in areas such as carpentry, plumbing, painting, and equipment maintenance while ensuring compliance with safety standard and building codes.
Requirements
- Knowledge of basic building maintenance methods and repair techniques.
- Familiarity with tools and equipment used in facility maintenance.
- Basic understanding of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC systems.
- Ability to read and interpret basic plans, diagrams, and repair instructions.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to estimate materials and supplies needed for repairs.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, physicians, and patients.
- High School diploma or GED or required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in building maintenance, construction, repair, or related work preferred.
Responsibilities
- Perform general maintenance and repair of hospital, clinic, housing units, and other CIH facilities.
- Conduct routine maintenance and basic repairs in plumbing, electrical systems, carpentry, painting, and HVAC.
- Perform minor repairs on facility equipment including beds, carts, appliances, water heaters, air conditioning units, and similar equipment.
- Repair or assist in repairing toilets, water lines, drains, sprinkler systems, and related infrastructure.
- Service equipment by cleaning, lubricating, replacing parts, and making minor adjustments.
- Assist with maintenance of mechanical and building systems including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.
- Assist with inspection, testing, and maintenance of emergency systems such as fire protection and emergency power.
- Perform preventative maintenance to ensure safe operation of facility systems and equipment.
- Maintain tools, supplies, and maintenance work areas in a safe and organized condition.
- Respond to maintenance requests and facility issues in a timely manner.
