About The Position

Job Summary: The General Utility position is responsible for general plant labor and clean-up of production areas; observe, monitor and report any conditions that could lead to product nonconformity or other irregularity; being trained in various entry-level production positions and fills in as needed during vacation, absences, and increased production demands; perform kiln outage work including refractory; report equipment problems identified to management; complete equipment pre-shift report, if applicable; clean work areas; shovel stone from around conveyors; maintain bathroom facilities; removal and installation of kiln refractory; operate small front end loader; replace or assist other workers as needed or directed. Trained in various entry-level production positions and fills in as needed during vacation, absences, and increased production demands. Perform kiln outage work including removal and installation of kiln refractory. Report equipment problems identified to management. Complete equipment pre-shift report, if applicable. Clean work areas. Shovel stone from around conveyors. Maintain bathroom facilities. Operate small front end loader. Replace or assist other workers as needed or directed. Other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Qualified candidates will have a High School Diploma or GED
  • Willing and able to work rotating shifts, including nights & weekends, etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively with other employees of the organization
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form
  • Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to different tasks and roles
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to follow instructions
  • Physical fitness and the ability to lift moderate weights
  • Good communication skills for reporting issues and collaborating with team members
  • Basic computer skills for record-keeping and reporting
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime as needed

Responsibilities

  • General plant labor and clean-up of production areas
  • Monitor and report any issues that may affect product quality
  • Fill in for various production positions during absences or increased demand
  • Perform kiln outage work and assist with refractory maintenance
  • Identify and report equipment problems to management
  • Complete pre-shift equipment reports
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, including bathroom facilities
  • Operate small front-end loaders and assist with stone removal
  • Support and assist other workers as needed
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and procedures
