About The Position

Performs technical work, editing cadastral maps and attribute data for inclusion in the GIS database; analyzing GIS data; and presenting GIS data in graphic format using ESRI’s ArcGIS platform as required by the Department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science or related field.
  • Three years’ experience with GIS required and background in ESRI ArcGIS software.
  • Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities stated above.
  • Valid class C Driver’s License and satisfactory motor vehicle record.
  • Knowledge of the use, operation, and maintenance of ESRI’s software; including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Portal, ArcGIS Online.
  • Knowledge of current principles and practices of mapping technologies; and recent developments in the field of cartography and geography.
  • Knowledge of GIS troubleshooting, map compilation, map composition, data structuring principles and procedures of GIS, spatial databases, tabular databases maintenance, and operation and use of GIS and related peripheral equipment.
  • Ability to perform a full range of computer operation duties under minimal supervision and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

  • Current GISP Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical support and end-user training for other users of GIS products.
  • Performs all edits of the various GIS cadastral layers, which include address, centerlines, zoning, stormwater, subdivision, and various annotation layers, utilizing a variety of source documents.
  • Creates and produces various maps, datasets, or other GIS-related products; produces hardcopy maps and visual aids for public officials, departments, the public, and other interested parties as appropriate; consults with users to identify needs; produces various reports and map projects.
  • Provides technical support and assistance to system users, public officials, and others as appropriate: trains and instructs staff members on use of GIS software and other software applications; provides information and technical assistance regarding mapping issues or related issues; provides information, research problems, and initiates problem resolution.
  • Communicates with supervisors, employees, other departments, the public, outside agencies, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
  • Perform a variety of technical duties involved in the operation of the geographical information system.
  • Follow map accuracy standards to assure quality control measures.
  • Compose GIS maps with regard to cartographic rules to ensure high quality, readability and aesthetic map products.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
