Responsibilities

  • Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with strong emphasis on fast and friendly service.
  • Assist customers by making product suggestions and providing helpful recommendations.
  • Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques through phone interactions, in‑store announcements, and direct customer engagement.
  • Answer incoming calls promptly, respond appropriately, resolve customer complaints, and notify the Store Director when needed.
  • Serve as the leader responsible for total store operations in the absence of the Store Director (see Store Director job description).
  • Plan daily GM operations and monitor production processes following company procedures and profitability expectations.
  • Build GM/HBC displays, rotate stock, and remove outdated or spoiled products.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area and department.
  • Implement effective promotional and seasonal displays.
  • Ensure all merchandise is properly priced, displayed, stocked, rotated, and meets department standards.
  • Maintain full compliance with all department requirements, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitor employee productivity and evaluate overall performance.
  • Create and maintain schedules to ensure adequate staffing and service levels.
  • Maintain knowledge of all department roles, including opening and closing procedures.
  • Supervise, train, and assign duties to department employees.
  • Train employees on store policies, sales practices, record‑keeping, and operational standards.
  • Identify and develop high‑potential employees for advancement.
  • Maintain working knowledge of policies and guidelines outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook.
  • Enforce proper code‑date rotation for all GM/HBC products.
  • Initiate personnel actions including interviewing, transfers, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
  • Prepare sales and inventory reports; participate in physical inventory every six months.
  • Maintain adequate product quantity, quality, and freshness while adhering to division inventory standards.
  • Order general merchandise products following Division directives.
  • Oversee reclamation processes and maintain organized and in‑stock conditions across all GM/HBC and Drug Department areas.
  • Control shrink, costs, and maintain optimal inventory levels.
  • Perform receiving duties including breaking down loads, verifying orders using invoices, inspecting product quality, reporting shortages, stocking, and rotating product.
  • Follow temperature and storage guidelines, proper packaging techniques, and all compliance requirements.
  • Process administrative paperwork and maintain accurate department records.
  • Accurately complete, maintain, and monitor daily logs, sales, labor tracking, and other required documentation.
  • Ensure proper product temperature levels are maintained and comply with all labeling laws, federal/state regulations, company policies, and code‑date standards.
  • Ensure safety, cleanliness, sanitation, and code‑date compliance of work areas, coolers, equipment, and displays.
  • Implement emergency procedures during equipment or software malfunctions.
  • Operate computer software and electronic ordering devices.
  • Use related equipment such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, scissors, knives, and safety cutters.
  • Comply with and enforce company grooming standards and dress codes.
  • Perform all duties safely, accurately, honestly, and with integrity.
  • Attend and participate in sales meetings.
  • Communicate department performance, sales goals, and sales opportunities to employees.
  • Perform other necessary and required duties as assigned.
