Grounds Care Assistant (part-time 28 hours/week) The Grounds Care Assistant will assist the supervisor in assignment completion by performing various tasks in gardening maintenance in an efficient manner. He/she will assist the supervisor in training new employees and will lead assigned projects.

Requirements

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
  • 1 year of experience in landscape maintenance
  • Ability to pass post-offer physical exam
  • Adherence to safety guidelines and University’s Honor Code
  • Physical Exam and Lift Test Required
  • Physical Effort Moderate – Physical effort represented by frequent handling of medium weight objects (approx. 20-50 lbs.) and materials, or use of medium weight hand tools. May require climbing and working from ladders or in awkward positions
  • Frequent exposure to unfavorable conditions such as all-weather, or working in cramped, very dirty, or unpleasant quarters
  • Moderate existing or potential hazards
  • Lift, carry, and move materials and equipment weighing approximately 20–50 pounds on a routine basis.
  • Perform physically demanding tasks including lifting, bending, kneeling, raking, and shoveling.
  • Climb ladders and work in awkward or confined positions while performing maintenance or labor tasks.
  • Perform work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including cold and freezing temperatures, while using appropriate protective clothing and equipment.
  • Operate or work in proximity to mechanical and powered equipment that may produce high noise levels, utilizing proper hearing protection as required.

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of experience in landscape maintenance
  • Current driver's license
  • Strong supervising, mentoring, and training skills
  • Ability to make decisions regarding projects and tasks

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment to accomplish project completion (90%)
  • Maintain an understanding of quality landscape maintenance
  • Perform assigned tasks, including miscellaneous projects
  • Lead team in project completion (10%)
  • Train new employees on equipment and tasks
  • Identify and prioritize new projects
  • Follow all safety guidelines to minimize the risk of injury and property damage
  • Interact with staff and customers in a polite, professional manner
