About The Position

The Arc of the Ozarks is looking for a Maintenance Assistant I to join our Facilities team and help us maintain safe, functional, and welcoming environments for the individuals we support and our employees. What’s This Job All About? As a Maintenance Assistant I, you will work in various office and residential facilities performing general maintenance and repair tasks. You’ll use your handyman skills to keep our buildings in great shape — from minor repairs and light drywall patching to basic carpentry, painting, and routine facility upkeep. This is a hands-on, active role where no two days are the same.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, heating, cooling, and carpentry (This may be demonstrated through previous work experience and/or training certifications)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a maintenance role
  • Ability to stand, stoop, lift, push, pull, and carry items weighing up to 75 pounds
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able to stand, stoop, lift, push, pull, and carry items weighing 75 pounds, as well as be able to kneel or squat for extended periods of time.
  • A minimum of eighteen years of age and possession of a diploma from an accredited High School or the equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a Missouri Class E driver’s license
  • A knowledge of grounds keeping, electrical, plumbing, heating, cooling, and carpentry.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a residential and/or commercial setting preferred
  • Knowledge of the use and proper disposal of chemicals used in grounds keeping (horticulture, turf management, and floriculture) is preferred.
  • Proven ability to complete maintenance projects in the past is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting maintenance issues and determining necessary repairs
  • Performing general repairs that do not require a specialized technician
  • Assisting with general remodeling projects
  • Maintaining facility roadways, parking lots, and assisting with snow removal
  • Performing routine maintenance on building systems
  • Caring for grounds and landscaping
  • Assisting with safety and maintenance training for other departments as needed
  • Performs tasks common to the care of grounds and landscapes such as mowing lawns with riding or push mowers; trimming and edging around trees, shrubs, ground cover, flowers, sidewalks, and buildings; weeding, thinning and cleaning flower beds and other grounds by hand or utilizing proper tools and equipment.
  • Maintains or repairs tools, equipment, or structures using hand or power tools.
  • Gathers and removes litter by regularly inspecting grounds for debris; raking, sweeping and bagging leaves, debris, dirt, and trash from grounds and transporting trash to designated areas on a daily basis.
  • Operates snow blowers, tractors and mowers with blades and using shovels to remove snow and spread sand and salt on snow- or ice-covered surfaces.
  • Applies chemicals used in grounds keeping properly and safely by wearing prescribed protective clothing, masks, and/or rubber gloves and boots, following either written or verbal instructions for mixing chemical compounds per specifications, applying the chemicals properly on grounds and landscapes designated for their use, and disposing of residual chemical products as directed or storing and labeling them for future use.
  • Driving a vehicle and loading or unloading of clients and staff.
  • Ensure that high standards of safety are developed, met, and maintained at all Arc facilities.
  • Participates in the process and function of The Arc of the Ozarks Health and Safety Committee as directed by Director of Maintenance
  • Completes, coordinates, and arranges for the completion of corrective and preventive maintenance in accordance with Arc of the Ozarks operating procedures, practices, and financial considerations.
  • Ensures that major equipment and furnishings are maintained in safe, operable conditions and/or arranges for replacement.
  • Provide training as assigned to the residential staff as it relates to the safety and maintenance needs of residential facilities.
