About The Position

The Habilitation Services Manager (HSM) will work at the Sewickley Campus, and is responsible for the daily operations, activities, coordination and implementation of therapeutic services, and long-range planning and management of the Habilitation Therapies Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern Verland. The HSM is responsible for coordination of all therapeutic services at all ICF locations and CLA locations when applicable. The HSM develops, organizes and supervises the full continuum of interdisciplinary Habilitation Services. The Habilitation Therapies Department is comprised of the following: Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Pathology, Behavioral Therapy, Recreational Therapy, Restorative Care, Aquatics and Equestrian Therapies. The HSM will act as the liaison between the contracted therapists and the Verland Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) . This is a salaried, exempt position.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of therapy services.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with employees of Verland and representatives of the community.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload, and maintain professional demeanor at all times.
  • Ability to relate to individuals, resident care staff, nursing staff, medical staff, consultants, administrative staff, interdisciplinary team, and the community in an effective and constructive manner.
  • Ability to coordinate separate programs into a comprehensive plan.
  • Must have a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech/Language Pathology or Behavioral Specialist in Pennsylvania.
  • Associated educational requirements for given profession is required and must be furnished.
  • Must have five+ years of experience as a practicing Therapist.
  • One year experience as a supervisor or clinical lead in a hospital, long-term care facility, or other related health care facility is required.
  • Must have demonstrated leadership ability and public relations skills.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development policies, procedures and goals related to the Habilitation Therapies Department.
  • The HSM will carry a caseload in addition to management responsibilities.
  • Responsible for personnel management, interdepartmental planning, budget development and management, tracking of expenditures, and quality assurance and improvement plans.
  • Performs personnel activities such as hiring, supervising, and evaluating staff and fostering recruitment and retention of professional staff to maintain adequate staff to perform necessary programming.
  • Completes practice observations to ensure individuals are provided care consistent with policies and procedures.
  • Ensures all therapies and supports represented are effective and meet state licensure, including ICF-IID, ATF, CLA and other standards as applicable.
  • Participates in the resident annual review process, including regulatory documentation completion and meeting attendance as necessary.
  • Serves as a resource to staff and other disciplines on matters requiring professional expertise and knowledge of quality assurance/improvement/risk management and/or infection control requirements.
  • Ensures equipment provided by the department meets the needs of the individuals for whom it is prescribed and is of appropriate design and fit. The HSM ensures smooth, effective carrying out of onsite therapy-based clinics, such as: wheelchair, orthotics, physiatry, and shoe.
  • Provides leadership in the areas of productivity, department goal setting, regulatory and billing compliance, and documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Fosters teamwork and applies creative thinking to set long- and short-term goals which are aligned with the mission and vision of Verland.
  • Leads and serves on committees to promote quality improvement in therapy services.
  • Participates in mock surveys, survey preparation and Department of Health Surveys.
  • Identifies potential areas of non-compliance, implements corrective action plans, and keeps the senior leadership informed.
  • Assures completion of staff competencies including mandatory education and programs relative to job specific criteria.
  • Promptly investigates and resolves significant Incident Reports .
  • Holds regular department meetings, builds and strengthens relations through fostering two-way communication; diffuse sources of conflict.
  • Communicates with parents and guardians of the individuals.
  • Demonstrates passion for clinical excellence, high staff satisfaction, and a supportive peer network/team approach.
  • Hold staff accountable for consistently modeling the behavioral standards.
  • Commits to high ethical standards and complies with the Code of Conduct, state and federal regulations, accreditation standards and Verland policies and procedures.
  • Maintains confidentiality of individual and employee records and information.
  • Has a duty to report compliance concerns, significant legal risk questions, fraud, abuse, suspected or actual misconduct.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
