About The Position

The Head Lifeguard at Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the safety, operations, and performance of the water park. As the Duty Manager, you will supervise the Front-Line Lifeguard team, ensure compliance with safety standards, and deliver exceptional guest experiences. This position requires strong leadership skills, advanced lifeguard certifications, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for all guests.

Requirements

  • Must hold an active Instructor Certification from an accredited lifeguard training agency (e.g., StarGuard Elite).
  • Minimum of 2 years of lifeguarding experience, preferably with at least 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Proven experience in training and mentoring lifeguards.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods in various weather conditions.
  • Lift and carry equipment or objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Demonstrate the ability to swim 100 yards continuously and tread water for 2 minutes without the use of hands.
  • Retrieve a 10-pound weight from a depth of 6 feet in the pool and swim it to the surface.
  • Perform all physical duties required of a lifeguard, including distance running and emergency response.
  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
  • A deep commitment to safety and guest satisfaction.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proactive and solution-oriented mindset.
  • Must be available 4 days a week including Saturdays, Sundays and holidays

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary point of contact for water park operations, ensuring smooth day-to-day functioning.
  • Oversee the scheduling, training, and performance of Front-Line Lifeguards.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with local, state, and company safety standards.
  • Manage emergency situations, providing leadership and direction to the lifeguard team and other staff.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate Front-Line Lifeguards to ensure they meet performance and safety standards.
  • Conduct in-service training sessions to maintain lifeguard skills and readiness.
  • Monitor lifeguard rotations and ensure proper coverage of all water park areas.
  • Address and resolve any performance or behavioral issues among the lifeguard team.
  • Serve as the lead responder in life-threatening emergencies, providing advanced care and coordinating with emergency services as needed.
  • Ensure all lifeguards are equipped with the necessary tools and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
  • Maintain and inspect all safety equipment, including first aid kits, rescue tubes, and AEDs.
  • Uphold the high guest service standards of Gaylord properties, ensuring a welcoming and enjoyable experience for all visitors.
  • Address guest concerns and complaints promptly and professionally.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless operations and guest satisfaction.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, training sessions, and equipment inspections.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of water park policies and procedures.
  • Prepare reports for management on water park operations, incidents, and team performance.
