About The Position

Support the mission of camp by planning and leading engaging program activities and events at the pool. Design and deliver activities that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the age and abilities of all campers, ensuring a positive and inclusive experience. In addition to aquatics responsibilities, assist with the overall camp operation under the guidance of the Camp Director. GSGLA Lakota Overnight Camp The Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles Camp Lakota is a state of the art, recently updated residential camp. Located just 90 miles from downtown Los Angeles, this premier camp site will host a full summer camp season. The camp will focus on providing a stand-out girl-led experience for campers of all ages and communities across our 6,272 square mile footprint. The camp offers a variety of specialty activities including a high ropes challenge course, horseback riding, swimming, and archery.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must be available for 10 weeks of day camp (June 2, 2026 – Middle August, 2026) and training dates that will be scheduled prior to camp.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid CPR/First Aid Certification throughout the position’s employment dates. Training will be available.
  • Must submit a basic health history form as set by the American Camping Association.
  • Ability to spend time sitting, utilizing the computer, and standing and walking throughout the facilities.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds periodically.
  • Must possess endurance including prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching.
  • Current Lifeguard Certification
  • Two or more years of experience as a lifeguard
  • Must be able to obtain or become certified in First Aid/CPR prior to first day of work.
  • Minimum six weeks previous experience in a management or supervisory position at a related aquatic facility.
  • Must submit health history form prior to first day of work.
  • Must be committed to work the entire camp season and attend all pre-camp trainings.
  • Ability to live onsite acting in an on-duty capacity for the duration of the camp season.
  • Comply with state-mandated reporter training
  • Attend GSGLA signature events and/or other activities as assigned
  • Must successfully complete a Live Scan and background check

Nice To Haves

  • Documented experienced teaching or interacting in youth programming
  • Red Cross Lifeguard Training or willingness to obtain course once arrived at Camp Lakota

Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, and supervise a safe, innovative, and fun aquatics program
  • Coordinate (with the help of aquatics specialists) schedules that meet camp goals.
  • Evaluate aquatics abilities of campers and staff.
  • Deliver creative swim and watercraft program activities.
  • Plan a schedule for each program/village tailored to this specific program and meets program promises.
  • Directing reporting to the Activity Manager if concerns arise with staff or the pool
  • Train and supervise aquatics specialists.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of staff training.
  • Train aquatics specialists and camp staff in their aquatics program responsibilities.
  • Schedule, supervise, and evaluate aquatics specialists to provide a safe and high-quality program.
  • Manage the physical facilities and equipment in the aquatics program area.
  • Set up aquatics program areas.
  • Teach and monitor proper use of equipment.
  • Conduct pre-season and end-of-season inventory, and store equipment prioritizing safety.
  • Check equipment and report maintenance requests to leadership team.
  • Conduct a daily check of equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.
  • Submit orders for equipment and supplies when needed, ensuring timely arrival of materials.
  • Survey the pool area daily and keep the area free of hazards and debris.
  • Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
  • Attend all camp staff meetings.
  • Assist in the planning of any special events at or near the pool.
  • Provide check in/out support and outstanding customer service to families.
  • Other duties as assigned.
