About The Position

The Health and Wellness Specialist should have a deep understanding of how social, emotional, and mental health are interconnected. They offer tailored guidance and evidence-based strategies to enhance self-awareness, manage emotions effectively, and improve interpersonal abilities. The ideal candidate will play a key role in promoting holistic wellbeing and fostering an inclusive environment within our school community.

Requirements

  • The Health and Wellness Specialist will be an experienced professional with prior leadership experience and a minimum of 2 years of work in comparable positions. Prior work in a university program, boarding school, or camp is particularly desirable.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field in the state of New York preferred.
  • Experience working with children or youth.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with research and best practices in socioemotional wellbeing.
  • Ability to make decisions and take initiative under pressure.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Must be CPR Certified.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent command of the English language.
  • All staff will be working closely with minors and will need to pass a criminal background check and successfully complete all training.
  • All positions will require the use of one’s personal cell phone.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, travel up and down stairs, crouch, stoop and reach.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with Edconic’s pre–college programs, including both permanent and temporary staff, coordinate resources and support services for students in need that prioritize socioemotional wellness.
  • Conduct assessments to evaluate students’ needs and identify areas for improvement.
  • Provide psychoeducation on topics related to socioemotional health, such as mindfulness, resilience-building, and effective communication strategies.
  • Offer individualized coaching and guidance to students to help them set and achieve goals related to their well-being.
  • Occasionally, facilitate group sessions to foster connections among students, covering topics such as mindfulness, communication skills, stress management, and building healthy relationships.
  • On a case-by-case basis, participate in disciplinary meetings and provide input on appropriate interventions and consequences,taking into account the unique needs and circumstances of each student.
  • Through empathetic listening techniques, assist in navigating challenges, managing stress, and developing coping mechanisms for improved well-being.
